Old alerts occuring in notification bar of Samsung Galaxy Tab S

Hi guys when I turn my tablet on after a few days I get multiple notices in the notification bar e.g. an email I read a week ago on my andriod phone. How can I stop this as its really annoying. Thanks in advance for your time and help

Welcome to Android Central! Does it only happen with email? Which email app are you using, and which email provider? Is it a POP3 or IMAP server?
