On $30 Plan But Want HTC One - How?

I'm on the $30 plan, so I'm already a TMo customer. But if I try to buy a HTC One, I can't get to it from My T-Mobile account login - the list of available phones if you're on the $30 plan doesn't include the latest models, so I assume they don't want to be able to get the latest phone unless I commit to one of the latest $50+ plans. I can deal with that, but there's no way to know what'll happen if I start wrestling with the system - if I change to a $50 or $60 plan will the HTC One just become available to me? Should I just go to a store and let them wrestle with it?

Has anybody done this?

If you change to a "$50 or $60" Simple Choice Plan then the HTC One will be available to you through T-Mobile for sure. I doubt that you could go to a store and get the phone through T-Mobile on your $30 plan but, it couldn't hurt to try I suppose, maybe you get lucky. This "Uncarrier" reconfiguration is still so new that I doubt too many have tried it.

If you can't get the store to help you out then you might need to try this:

Keep your current $30 plan. Start a new line with the $50 plan and put a $99 downpayment on a T-Mobile HTC One. Cancel the $50 plan before the start of the second month and payoff the remaining balance on the HTC One ($480). Put your $30 plan sim card in your HTC One. Viola! Granted, this way you end up paying $630 for the phone, but you get a device guaranteed to work on T-Mobile HSPA+ and LTE and retain your $30 plan.

Unfortunately, last I checked, the unlocked HTC One available directly from the HTC website only has AT&T radios so this is probably your best current option.

agreed, he can try to see if he can get the HTC One on a EIP at the store without having to switch to Simple Choice. If all else fails, he can simply just fork over $600+ dollars to buy the phone outright at the T-Mobile store, and boom there you have it, HTC One on your $30 plan. Frankly, I'm not sure you're maximizing the value of a smartphone on a $30 plan, b/c as I recall that does not include internet or even texting.... You pretty much want at least the 500mb of internet, but oh well, everyone uses their phone for different reasons.

T-Mobile has 2 different $30 plans. I think the OP is on a different one than you're referring to. His plan would include 100 minutes, unlimited texts, and data throttled at 5GB.

Huh? "My" $30 plan includes unlimited texting and 5GB of "unlimited" "4G" data, and I use all of my current phone's (Google Nexus 4) data services happily on the plan. I'm only looking at the Nexus One and a switch to a "$50 or $60" Simple Choice Plan because, well, the Nexus 4 is a nice phone but the Nexus One is a NICE phone! ;)

you must have a grandfathered plan that I wasn't aware of (I've only been a customer for 1 year, so I was only exposed to 1 verison of the $30 plan), man that's a killer deal for 5gigs of 4G data and unlimted text. I would cling on to that plan like fly on shat...lol
I think you only option now is to just buy the phone from T-Mobile outright, hope $650 is "pocket change" for you. But go to a store and see if they're willing to keep you on your grandfathered plan and still sell you the phone on EIP

Well, the T-Mobile "full" price is a nice chunk of change, and I'd have to pay the lump sum if I don't just switch to a "$50 or $60" Simple Choice Plan first, but regardless, HTC will give me $125 to trade in my LG Google Nexus 4 via the HTC Trade Up program so that helps deal with the sticker shock.

oh, I just saw you're on the prepaid plan, yeah I think no dice, you have to buy it outright. Your Nexus 4 should be worth more than $125 if you sell it on Ebay...

I would give you more than $125 for your nexus, just saying. Try and sell it to someone, even if you're not looking to make a whole lot of money and just get rid of the phone, plenty of members would be willing to pay more than $125 for that phone. (more money for you, more of a deal for them).

You mean HTC ONE. The Nexus One is very old :p

EDIT: Sell your Nexus 4 on Swappa. You'll get a good customer base willing to buy your phone for a decent price. Those trade-in offers from the carriers will lowball you.

Yeah, sell your nexus 4 on swappa. You will definitely be able to get more than $125 plus $100 for it.
