My brother got a touchpad and wants me to set it to dual boot between Webos and Android. I have the instructions, I've rooted Android before, but I'm wondering if I have to do a full erase on the webos side, will it wipe out the dual boot?

No erase is required for the dual boot. Follow the instructions to use ACMEInstaller to load moboot, CWM, and CM7 (and gapps, if you wish). When complete you will have a dual boot device running webos and cm7 with the option to select the os you wish to boot when you start.

This is actually a gift and we don't want to tip off the recipient. Can you change who the device is registered to after the fact?

Actually a lot of people (including myself) lost music, video's and other media flashing the first alpha, so be on the safe side and back up important files.

It doesn't wipe out the WebOS side at all. If you follow the instructions, and install MoBoot, it will add a dual boot menu, and give you the option to boot WebOS or Cyanogen.

Since you are starting with a fresh device, you don't have to worry about losing data. I'm guessing some of the people that lost data lost it because it was saved to the sector that was partitioned for CM.

Maybe I'm not being clear enough -- after I get the dual boot all setup and everything, I will have to do a force erase on the palm side so that when she starts it up she has to put in her information. When I do that, will it mess with the dual boot at all?

No, I had to wipe webos a few weeks after I installed cm7 and it worked out fine.

Thanks, got it installed and everything went without a hitch.

Going back to watching for news blurbs on the Galaxy Nexus....
