I'm running Win XP SP3 and every time I plug the USB cable into my computer, XP displays that the USB is an unrecognized device. Therefore I can not put any files on my phone. Is this a common issue? Am I missing crucial drivers?

I have also tried using HTC Sync Manager but it still will not recognize my phone. I went through the user guide but that was no help either.

Last thing I tried was to see if Media Player 11 would recognize phone but it will not.

Anyone have any ideas? Please and thank you.

You most likely have to download and install the drivers. XP probably can't automatically find them. Go to HTC site and download them and you should be fine. Also turn on USB debugging.... Settings>developer Options> check USB debugging. You also download the SDK from the below link and install the google drivers from there. My drivers actually installed when I installed the sync manager.

Strangely, on my home computer running Windows 7, I can access all the folders and files on the HTC One as if it were a storage device, without the need for HTC sync manager.

But not on windows XP, if I connect with a USB cable, a new device shows up in My Computer, but its labelled a CD drive and is inaccessible.

Tried HTC sync manager, but cannot access the phone, only the PC which is pretty pointless, so can only charge phone at work now. My old HTC Desire S was fine on Windows XP, same cable, same computer, so it must be something to do with the phone communicating with XP or how Jelly Bean manages its built in Memory card/chip in XP, or doesnt manage it properly.

Basically, XP needs new drivers that can communicate like Windows 7.

Paul, this was answered before, but I don't have the link. I believe it has to do with the MTP(?), which XP doesn't have on its own, but if you download and install the latest version of Windows Media Player, it will work. I had this same issue a few months ago, trying to get my wife's phone connected to her XP desktop. Worked like magic on my W8 box, but not the other one, until I did this. Give it a try and (if it doesn't work) do a search for that thread.

Good luck!
