OnePlus 3 with AT&T - not able to get LTE connection

My own speculation is that the A3000 CDMA model for China and North America are one and the same and it is the firmware and in particular the baseband/modem/radio firmware, that differentiates between the abilities shown in my earlier post, #58. Hence, Hydrogen for China and Oxygen for North America. Otherwise, if the difference were hardware based, one would expect a different model number for either the China or North American minority variants.

That seems logical. In which case the OP would know if he has Hydrogen or Oxygen, I presume.... which in itself would indicate whether he has a USA or China model.

Still seems a bit convoluted.

And just for my personal education, why do you call it the A3000 CDMA since it's a GSM phone?

Check out the, "Network", in the spec's of the OnePlus 3, A3000, North American, minority varant and it shows that it is a CDMA network phone on, "CDMA2000 1xEV-DO - North America"; See, here. Both China and the U.S.A. still have a significant number of users on the old CDMA network... China Unicom, Verizon/Sprint/US Cellular. You will also notice that the A3000 does not have fully compatible 4G/LTE bands for global/worldwide use. See, Will My Phone Work?

OnePlus 3, A3000, Verizon CDMA network

Whether Verizon will allow the OnePlus 3 phone to be registered on its network is another matter since they do not like phones that they do not control, usually.

I hear you but it's hard to follow the logic. The phone doesn't work on USA Verizon and Sprint LTE networks but works on GSM AT&T and TMo LTE networks. Not getting into the technical details of CDMA/GSM and LTE, but from a conventional standpoint, VZW/Sprint are CDMA carriers and yet the OP phones don't work on them?

So do OP phones work on 2G/3G (CDMA) networks, just not LTE from VZW/Sprint... which make them impractical for USA applications with CDMA carriers?

My edit and your post have crossed.

I just edited my previous post with a screenshot and a possible answer to your question.

My Global OnePlus 3, A3003, will work on most networks in countries worldwide but not on CDMA networks or North American 4G/LTE.

This is why users should be careful about the firmware, A3000 or A3003, they are using on their model of phone as shown in Settings > About phone > Build number. See screenshot. Although I have a feeling that the phone may well prevent incorrect firmware being used???

Yup mine is A3000 also

The full model number is A3000_16_161118

From what I have found the North American model and the China model have the same number. But they have different bands. I have not found out how to tell the difference between the two?

I gave the customer service rep for Oneplus my imei's. He said the imei's on my phone are in their database as the China model.

BTW, my build number is the same as yours: ONEPLUS A3000_16_161118

Not quite... mine is for the A3003_16_161116 and not the A3000_16_161118, since mine does not have CDMA.

My bad! I have just realised that you are replying to kach474. (I need more coffee :p)

No worries. I was a bit late replying to him, so it was somewhat out of sequence. I have to think the OP has a USA phone. But what his problem is regarding LTE, I have no clue... unless it's simply a matter of semantics/terminology. 4G+ vs LTE, etc. Although I'm not sure that 4G+ shows in the USA.

But thanks for that earlier info.

In the U.K. on the EE network, 4G+, a.k.a. LTE-A or LTE Advanced, just shows as 4G...

When I received my email from Oneplus stating I had the China model I asked how to tell the difference between the two of them. This was their response.

Is the same IMEI reported for both slots?
No, sim slots do not have the same IMEI.

I called AT&T with a T-Mobile sim in phone. AT&T was sim 1 and T-Mobile was on sim 2. I called in and told the service representative that I was not getting 4g on AT&T network but on the T-Mobile network I was getting 4g and VOLTE. I made sure to tell them I had the T-Mobile sim card in the sim 2 of my phone, I also mentioned that I was thinking of switching to T-Mobile. The representative did something to the back-end programming of my account and I had 4g on AT&T.

I dont have a solution, just adding to the problem. I have just returned from a 3 month stay in the US. The oneplus 3 refused to connect with any Data service. Neither Airtel with Intl roaming or Xim valid for America/Canada worked for data. AT&T in the US would not guarantee that their sim card would work for data.
Q. Is the oneplus 3 bought in india a Global Phone? (seems not)
