OnePlus 5 Bluetooth issues - unable to pair

I received my OnePlus 5 yesterday and it seems the Bluetooth support isn't quite right.

When pairing the phone says incorrect PIN or passcode even though the codes are identical on car display and phone and oddly I am not allowed to enter PIN on the phone.
My car display shows PIN 0000 initially, but as soon as I select Lexus from my phone to pair the Bluetooth devices - the phone seems to be trying to use a different PIN: the phone comes up with a random 6 digit PIN and that PIN even displays on the car display instantly, yet pairing still can't occur.

Given my Lexus is only a year old - can this issue be something like a software bug?
I'll speak with my local Lexus dealership, but I doubt there are any software updates they can do therefore I will probably end up returning my phone...

All basic stuff, but is your phone up to date? Have you tried cycling the power? Clearing the cache in recovery? Will the phone pair to other things? Will the car pair to other phones?

Thank you.
And yes I applied the phone updates as soon as I received the handset.
The power cycle made no difference.
I can pair the phone to my bluetooth headset.
As far as the car is concerned I've paired it to my work handset, but that is a Samsung one, it also works with my wife's iPhone too.

I'll clear the cache and try to pair tomorrow; Their support also asked me to fully wipe the phone, but I just finished setting it up so not keen.
