OnePlus 6 vs other flagship phones

I won't pay 900+ for any phone. It's a phone for crying out loud. I consider the OnePlus devices to be the closest thing you can find to a Nexus and in a world of skinned and bloated devices, OnePlus suits me just fine. I've owned the One, Two, Three, and Five. And I'll probably end up with a Six.

My question is if 1+6 was the same price as other flagship phones would people still buy it? Because being 300 or 400 dollars less I can see the interest and bargain if you can do without couple features.

I not buying it for less .So for sure would not buy it for same price. I would not use it if it was free.
I don't trust the company either

I dont want to pay more then 350.00 for a phone but they all are going that way and as you see oneplus is slowly creeping up with the prices each year ...

Ok I'll bite, what's the difference? Should I have said "you get an unbloated clean customizable experience that has the essence of something like a Nexus or Pixel"? I guess when I think of a pixel I just think of a mostly clean experience so that's what I was comparing it to in my head. In fact, I think the OP6 might be closer to a pure basic Android experience like you used to get with a Nexus than the Pixel anyway.

Yes, I think the Pixel software is starting to get some bloat to it. I don't need the assistant, I don't want to squeeze it, I don't need effing stickers in my camera because I'm not 12 and I don't give a rats butt about VR on a phone. So you'll have to forgive me if I don't think the Pixel experience is perfect and the best. But by most accounts I've read the OP software is a very nice lightly customizable experience.

I don't see how the AR stickers impact your experience.

Smart phones are well beyond being just a phone. If that's all it is why upgrade from the 5?

Me neither. But I get my Sammies at lower prices than a OnePlus (S9 for equivalent of $350), so why would I get a OnePlus for full price?

But if everything was equal, no I still won't get a OnePlus. If OnePlus was the same price as an S9 or Pixel, it would come down to preference, and even then the other two has an advantage.

If we compare same generations, it would OP6, S9 and the upcoming Pixel 3.

If you prefer features/built in tricks, the S9 has them both beat.
If you prefer performance, the Pixel and OP6 would probably be near indistinguishable since they'll be using the same chipset with very little bloat, but the Pixel has the added benefit of supposedly longer support timeframe plus we could expect a better camera than the OnePlus even if they didn't change the one on the Pixel 2.

There's really no area in my opinion where choosing a OnePlus over an S9 or Pixel in the same price range is viable since the other two has something over the OnePlus.

I agree with several of your points, but not the conclusion that Oxygen OS resembles anything in the same realm as the software that used to be on Nexus devices or the software that's on Pixel devices. Oxygen OS does appear very clean and VISUALLY resembles the more "stock" ish skins, but I guess I'm referring to the actual nature of the software, most of which is not the UI. Under the hood, OnePlus devices are very different. That could be why we think we disagree, because we're talking about two fairly different things using the same terms.

That's fair.

For me, its value for the price. Would I buy it if it cost as much as the Pixel, or S9 Plus, Note 8, etc? NO WAY JOSE!

Pixel isnt exactly stock either

I've only heard good things about the OnePlus UI

The failings in OnePlus will come elsewhere, like the camera or the support but certainly not from the UI

Edit: to answer the question, I took advantage of the UK deal, (pixel XL2 at 599) with a trade in for my old phone at 150 and picked up the Pixel 2 XL for around 450.
So no I guess if the Oneplus 6 was full price, I wouldnt pay for it if I had a better alternative

Mod note: Moved from Pixel 2 forum to the OnePlus 6 forum.

That was an excellent deal. We recently gotnone for £629 and I thought that was a good price

Agree, agree, agree and that's a good deal

I suppose it would depend on the individual user/potential buyer; and what they are looking for in a phone.

Personally, I buy phones full price based on the fact that they check off all of my preferred specifications (or almost all of them). If buyers wanted the OnePlus 6, perhaps some would pay an elevated price tag for it.
