Only 5 Homescreens

Does anybody notice this? It's kind of annoying since the Mytouch 4G is one of the most powerful phones on the market yet its stuck with only 5 homescreens versus the 7 on others. Will root fix this?

You can set it for 7 homescreens in the settings. Settings>Personalize> First option is expand homescreens from 5 to 7

Just read the disclaimer if you do decide to do that setting to 7 screens because in order to go back to 5 you will have to do a factory reset.

While I haven't tried the various options, I do know that you can still just throw Launcher Pro on the phone to completely tweak out the homescreen options.

The main effect is that it replaces the dock at the bottom, with a highly customizable version of the base android dock.
Along with that it allows for things such as adjusting how many collumns of apps show in the drawer, do the app icons display the label text or not, things like that.
with the ability to drop in graphics for differant dock backgrounds, and swap out some icons, it can lead to a nicely custom look for your phone, as well as being impressively light on resources.

I especially love launcher Pro as it offers soo much customizability. It was one of the first apps I implemented on my MT4G and I don't think I will go back to the sense ui. I will give you my loves about it here:

First thing that I love is this: The dock
It allows you to get rid of the stock android dock of 3 icons and put up 5 with multiple skins to look like Froyo, Mac OSX, etc.
You also get 3 separate docks that are scrollable so it increases the amount of programs you can add up to 15 instead of the traditional 3-5 in stock android and sense respectively.
It also supports swipe gestures which double all that or you can even add some minor enchancements which makes the experience soo much better. There are soo much more than that too.

Second: Homescreen customizability:
You can add or delete up to 7 homescreens
You can add or delete rows and/or columns in the homescreens
Enable trackball/trackpad scrolling between homescreens also
Ability to set youur own default screen
Customize the Home button action
and soo much more

I could go into it for about an hour all thats in there...just try it youurself and you will prolly never go back...also get the Beautiful Widgets app and there you go you have sense ui.
