Op Ed: Google's Looming Pixel 4 disappointment

Can you imagine what we would all be upset about if it had three cameras and a larger 4100mah battery....l

Androidcentral and most tech YouTubers are basically being super hard on these phones because of battery and no wide angle lens. I'm getting 5 hours & 40 mins on average within a 15 hour period. Yes I'm left with only 2% battery, but it gets me through and entire day.

Of course compared to other phones like the iPhone 11 and maybe some other flagship phones of 2019 in this price range you do get less battery, but not bad battery. (I'm providing my opinion based on the pixel 4 XL usage not the smaller 4).

Also, not sure why people keep comparing it to the iPhone 11 lineup it's a totally different OS. People need to compare it to other Android phones with the same OS onl. Ifyou are in the iOS ecosystem most likely you are not looking to get a pixel and If you are in the Android Ecosystem then you are most likely not looking to get an iPhone so these 2 OS comparison is kind of invalid if you ask me. Unless you don't care which OS you use then that could be a deciding factor.

That being said I'm extremely happy with my pixel 4 XL, I've had it since Wednesday and no issues what's so ever for me. I get significantly longer SOT then I did on my pixel 3 xl which to me makes me happy especially taking all this new tech into consideration.

The third camera, ok, I'll give that even though I think once the new feature smell wears off, the ultra wide camera madness will cool...I had a phone with a UW... Used it on occasion (less as time went on), and put it in the 'nice to have, but whatever if not' column.

And we really need to move past this bezel thing. There's a reason why there is a top bezel in the Pixel 4. It's jammed with hardware no other Android OEM has yet. REAL biometric facial recognition that uses two wide-set IR floods (Apple uses one) and an IR camera, a FFC (that is still the best stills FFC in the business), and the Soli radar chip that they're barely touched the surface on yet. All will eventually get hidden behind the display, but not yet. So the lack of a bezel-less is due to added hardware features that aren't available on any other Android phone.

As far as prices go, people are overlooking the true driving factor... The cost to develop all the software that is running all that hardware. All those engineers don't work cheap... And the most expensive phones have a LOT of engineers working on them. The Pixel 4 has a custom designed processing chip dedicated to imaging. How much do you think that cost?

You're starting to find multi camera rigs on even budget phones these days, but the quality still sucks... You're just getting mediocre pictures are different angles.

It’s mind boggling to see people defending the high cost of the Pixel 4s when it offers few features when compared to other companies. Have anything to say about the OnePlus 7T’s price? It offers all the Pixel 4’s specs, but better, and costs half the price. It has 8GB of RAM, 128GB storage, 90Hz display, bigger battery, fast and frequent software updates, and includes a wide angle lens. These companies should be scrutinized when they offer less for more, not defended.

It's mind boggling to see how bent out of shape you are about a phone and how concerned you are with other people's wallets....

I don’t like getting ripped off.

Value isn't what something costs. Value is what that something is worth.

Besides, in your biased opinion how are you getting ripped off? Nobody is forcing you to buy anything! ??????

I mean, it’s cool that you don’t mind getting ripped off. I don’t like getting ripped off.

I mean if you're that worried about other people getting "ripped off" send us your address so we can send you all our electricity and insurance bills.

Nobody wants a Chinese spyware phone.

I'll take an American company like Google all day. At least I know they are using my data to better my Android ecosystem. Like my Sony TV running Android, Google Home mini, Pixel 4XL, and Roomba. All connected via Android.

Just because a company is Chinese doesn’t necessarily mean it’s trash. Huawei, Xiaomi, OnePlus and Oppo have all demonstrated that they can provide outstanding hardware and software for a very tempting price with little to no caveats.
