Optimus Elite @ Walmart.com

there's no way around it. vm is NOT competitive with straight talk. they just aren't. and being cut by st after 200 mb a day...doesnt bother me,i rarely use 200 a day.. my point is this, for a PHONE conpany...they don't offer very much on the PHONE end.

I'd agree that they aren't competitive, but not in the way that you seem to be implying, which is that they're doing things wrong. They are both pretty much there for different types of consumers.

Straight Talk is sold exclusively through Wal-Mart for a reason. Marketed towards families as an easy and affordable way to stay in touch with each other, without the hassles of a contract, and let's face it, it's marketed towards low income families as well that may have issues with things such as credit checks / deposits and the like.

Virgin Mobile is obviously marketed towards the single user, who tends to place more emphasis on having newer technology...a "smarter" device that is more data-centric. Power users. People like us.

Just went to the VM website & it says the LG Optimus V (original) is... "Temporarily Out Of Stock"

This makes me think the OV will no longer be sold......????

I was literally just going to post about this. I think the only good thing about this phone is that it's got that standard 3.5" screen. The crappy thing is the 800mhz processor

I think the screen on the device will prevent it from being the next OV in terms of sales. The OV and OE have the same screen resolution. The PPI for the OV is 180. The PPI for the OE is 165. I think anyone who has an OV will be disappointed in the OE's screen once they see it in person.

i work at walmart the OV is scanning eos now (end of season) which in walmart terms is general end of life. Sprint also pulled the S from my contract selection and replaced it with a touch screen feature phone from LG. straittalk is a decent setup, but they need to really update their selection. I honestly think the one to watch out for will be U prepaid from US Celluar. for those not wanting data, its amazing deal, 30 bucks a month, 1500 any time minutes, night weekends free starting at 9 and unlimited mobile to mobile. (now I'm not sure if thats only USCell to UScell, but either way, they get more for 30 than we do for 45, and they get unlimted every thing except data on the smart phone plan for 50, the data is caped at 2GB. which honestly, most people dont gove over that. I hardly ever hit my 2.5GB cap and I use tethering quite offten....

If you dont like whats available to Vm currently by all means nobody here is going to stop you because we really cant. However what is being stated is hoping people will be INFORMED and not feel blindsided.

low income families? single users wanting smart technology? st has android also...compareable androids. and low income or credit checks, etc aren't valid comparisons. id bet a majority of vm consumers have issues for one reason or anorher with post paid plans...being that their a complete rip off....low income is using both companies. either way,st is $10 cheaper for very compareable service. ive been on the vm bandwagon for years, its not about giving them a bad rep...they've earned that themselves.

I wish it were that simple.

I usually only use about 1gig in a month. However, the times I tether because a client has dial up or no internet service or no wifi. I can use 200-400megs in an evening. Now, those are rare, about once a month, but it would get me booted from Straight Talk for sure.

T-Mobile, if I got the 5gig plan, my minutes would push me into the $45 range due to minutes. If I got the 2 gig plan, that would be fine, except those times I need more than 2 gigs, and odds are, it would happen while in an office or home without internet, leaving me stuck at 100k speeds. That is if I could even get service there. T-mobile data doesn't penetrate my house's walls. Which is another downside to Straight Talk.

For the money, for my needs, nothing beats VM, even at $35. Trust me, I ran the numbers. I spent 4 months researching (all carriers and MVNOs) before I bought my Evo 4g to put on VM. The cheapest I could realistically get away with changing carriers would be around $60 a month.

So while VM may not be competitive for you, they are an absolute deal for me.

i thought i had read that the EVO 3D was going to be $200.
HAHAHA, no.
That will be the estimated price for the One V.
Evo 3D/4G will cost $275-350

Think what you like. Just because VM is bad for you doesn't mean it is bad for someone else. That is what I was saying. Straight Talk and Virgin Mobile are meant for two different types of users, as evidenced by what you are given at similar price points. They only have a "bad rep" to people like you who obviously won't benefit from the differences between them and ST. The plans at similar price points are like comparing apples to oranges. If Straight Talk wasn't so strict about data usage it would be a different story.

They actually wouldn't have the rep they have if they would simply tell people what the actual data limits are.

They have never given a straight answer as to how much is too much. Also, while they do try to warn you about going over, the delay between when they send it and when you receive it, is often long enough that you already exceeded the data limit, which gets you kicked off.

No throttle, no cap, they simply boot you off.
I have heard, so don't take it as proof, but they have booted people for consistent warnings as well. So even if all you do is get near your limit too many times they will kick you. Again, just what I have heard. I don't know how true it is.

Hofo has a HUGE thread of people discussing their experiences and A LOT of them are not good and almost all of it pertains to how they are unwilling to communicate the limits.

curtis it seems you are taking a defensive stance on this. Please read my post above your last one.

I would also challenge you to research the network ST's androids and what network they work on. You will find the network is the same as Vm. The coverage is the same the data speeds the same, and pretty much the devices are the same/similar.

Every carrier has its downfalls. But ST is a MVNO they piggy back on various phone companies networks and you are limited by that particular network.

LeslieAnn I would like to see the differnece between the various sims available on ST. THe list three different "styles' att unlocked and tmobile. of those they also show a micro sim. I wonder if you get a tmo sim for tmo phones, a att sim for att phones. And if you get the different carriers sims if your data signal would be from that carrier. See where Im going?

So many wild claims here. I could never approach 400 megs in an evening. Pricing issues aside, ppl use the service or do not. Buyer beware.

He was saying VM has a "bad rep", that's what I was referring to. Sorry.

Yes, you get what the phone needs.
I have heard the AT&T side is more strict, especially in regards to streaming and tethering. It's not just Straight Talk, they have to because AT&T is mad in this regard.

Still no excuse for hiding the limits.

After reading that it seems I was kinda harsh or something. What I was getting at was you said T-mo service sucked for you. But Maybe att would have been better. But if att is more aggressive on the daily data usage that wouldnt be any good.

No worries.
AT&T doesn't have such screwy limits, but they are extreme when it comes to tethering, so Straight Talk has to be.

just spoke with vm regarding this phone, they dont have it nor have any info on it. i figure walmart posted this by mistake and/or a little to early. i called to make up my mind on either straying with vm and upgrading to triumph or something newer or just moving to straight talk. as of now im a little undecided.
(edit;) also this out of stock stuff with the v :on company website and it being sold as end of life at walmart has me wondering if vm isnt pulling it due to all the modding activity. the triumph was out before the v wasnt it? and all the enticement to get an ov slider, radio update, this elite crap. maybe its their way of terminating any new owners from obtaining the ov

I wouldn't try to get the triumph or elite. The triumph has crappy Modding and the elite is barely any better.

I am just waiting for the One V or Evo 3D. the hardware in those it much better and already have good development

the triumph is tempting but i definitely dont care for the current dev on the device. big negative. and the elite is just my current phone dummied down with some cosmetic changes....hmm....but,there is always the rumor touch lol. which is easily modded by the way lmao
