Well i have an optimus s, but has a bad esn. i would like to use it for wifi only. is there a way i can delete phone functions (sms, dialer, etc...) i tried deleting using root explorer, but it fc then have to recover into backup. so please help my odd request.

You can use the phone with WiFi only even with the phone not activated, so I don't see why you couldn't use it if the ESN was bad. If that is the case, why bother removing those apps, just don't use them.

I would like to delete those files so it would save a lot of battery, after reading some threads about deleting those apps on tablets, they double the battery. after looking into my setting i found that over 70% of my battery usage goes to cell standby.

Unless I'm mistaken you can enable WiFi while the phone is in airplane mode. Airplane mode turns off the cell radio.
