Optimus V Price Raised!!! Scandal!!!

how is this a scandal? parts for the optimus were prolly made in japan, and well we all know what happened there. so naturally a lack of supply caused a demand thus raising the price. $200 bucks tho is rather steep $179 would of made more sense

Hopefully just a temporary price increase to slow down new purchases. I think Virgin/Sprint bit off more than they could chew with target and best buy having it on sale the same week, and the Target sale being amazing. We all felt the effects of this with our data outages from a couple weeks ago.

Amazon had it listed at $244 for a while, now it's back down to $199, with a used listing of $219! Some ebay postings have been higher. I just feel lucky I got in while it was cheap.

I feel sorry for whomever bought the $138.50 one WITH $165 shipping... lulz...

I wish that ebay'd crack down on these people jacking their prices through shipping cost... and feel sorry for the people who don't pay attention when bidding on what they think is a good price w/o checking the assinine shipping charges...

I bought one on Saturday from a Target where they had ONE in the rack and it was still $149.99, while miffed at missing the $129.99 price I still that this is a decent price for this phone, but $200 is a joke.

I checked a nearby worstbuy before going to target where they had some on the racks but the price tag was $199.99, so I chuckled and left. (I never expect a decent price from worstbuy...)

Manufacturing: slim possibility that they're made in S. Korea, but MUCH more like that they're made in China just like everything else is.

I recently sold my droid x on ebay.
I listed the cheapest shipping cost and ups and usps both was listing 2 day at or about 30 bucks. When I went to ship the phone as the buyer requested viz 2 day ups told me 46bucks to ship the phone from southern mo to middle of Illinois.

This isnt 1984 anymore where you could send a 100lb package for 2.50$.

USPS priority mail is around 5 -15 bucks. There is no reason for the rip off shipping charges. But that is outside the scope of this thread.

Seems like the phones are not only hard to find, but expensive now as well. Glad I jumped in at 149. That's supply and demand folks.

Supply and demand but it's rather funny this is the first time I've seen a price increase on a smartphone

Wow, I got mine at BB for $129 a few weeks ago. Then Target had it for the same price and a $20GC so I had BB price match it. I got $20 back. Total cost: $110.
Bringing the price up is ridiculous.

Cutterjohn I missread your initial response, I apologize for being a tard :D.

I thought it said 138 and with shipping it was 165.
Teach me to r3ead at 4 am and half asleep lol.
For me 99% of the time fedex is about 10 bucks cheaper then ups.

jmel ups and fedex both offer $200 insurance on standard shipping. Last time I shipped something via usps and added 200 insurance it cost me another 10 bucks. So I could have used ups or fedex and got it shipped for 5 bucks cheaper.

I also priced usps when I shipped the droid x they were 2 bucks higher than ups and it would have been 3-5 instead of guaranteed 2 day.

back OT.

I dont see how its a scandal. Ive been telling you guys for over two weeks that ******s rooting and flashing roms and then breaking the phones was going to cause us problems. At the minimum 97% of you dismissed it as just being dramatic. Guess I was right.

I'm pretty sure when they came out I was reading that the $149.99 price was only introductory and was going to raise to $199, so this doesn't come as a surprise to me. Though I am kind of upset I didn't want a week or two and get the Target price, I had radio shack overnight it from one of their other stores about 45 minutes south of me. I was quite impatient.

People rooting and flashing things to their phones has nothing to do with a price increase... This phone sold like hot cakes, and it would make sense for retail stores to try and maximize their profit on a solid and popular item.

Unless you can back up your assumption with fact(that the retail stores raised the price because of people breaking their phones), expect to have that statement dismissed as such. If the retail stores and virgin(and other carriers) cared about it, the third party stores selling the product wouldn't accept phones that had been "broken."

lol, you can't be serious. Unless the person has no idea what they are doing and try and do it without reading up first they are not going to break their phone. It is ridiculously easy to root and install custom roms on this phone.

They care hence the reason the phones like the new Thunderbolt and the the Droid X have the locked bootloader. Carriers and Manufacturers are now working together to lock up the new phones as they come out. No retailer is going to refuse to accept a phone unless its blanently obvious that it was modified or you admit it was modified and you took it back to stock.

Instead of trying to be cool and go blah blah ridiculously easy to root and install roms, research this forum. There is multiple threads where somebody messed up the phone and returned it because they still had the 30 return policy. Even some of the rom cookers have bricked the phone and they know wtf they are doing, but they were pushing the limits.

If the phone had not sold like hotcakes on a sunday morning the price would still be 149.99. The local best buy mobile phone center manager told me she exchanged atleast five phones that she knew were user errors but because she couldnt prove the person had rooted the device she HAD ,per BB policy, to exchange the phone out. That is just local to me and while she was working.

They are locking up phones so that people can't update them to new OS's so that people have more incentive to buy new phones every year or so. That being said, it's their own fault for bricking their phones without figuring everything out ahead of time. I am surprised BB took them back. Normally they will turn away returns like that if there is even the chance of them being bricked from rooting or custom roms at least from stories I have heard from there. Lastly I don't see how I was trying to "sound cool", it's the truth. If someone can't follow simple step by step instructions it is their own fault.
