Optimus V/S Update 2.3

use IHO. its 2.3.7, newer than any gingerbread rom that LG would even make. IF they were to make one, which is to say, it wont happen.

IHO CM7 are the best roms for the OV hands down

VM most likely won't release an official Gingerbread for the OV. You're better off rooting and flashing any of the IHO roms that are on this forum.

Vm will probably release GB for the OV, however, it won't be for a while yet, and you will have to buy a new phone to get it.

Root and rom, you won't be sorry, just be sure to read and know what you are doing first. Use a guide meant for newer phones, don't use Rom Manager.

Oh and DO NOT flash GB for the OS.
If you do and you leave in the radio update, your phone will be dead. If you do it right, you are still left with no data (fixed by putting on the correct rom).

Don't flash ANY Optimus S roms unless you know what you are doing and/or willing to risk your phone.

Can't use it unless someone helps hack up a kernel to use with our radio, primarily.

Such a shame too, it runs much better than IHO when I played with it on an Optimus S.

How does stock GB work better than a tricked out IHO...?

Don't know if that was sarcasm but it performed much much better. Visually smoother, nearly no stops between apps. It felt like Froyo ROMs but of course in Gingerbread form.

Honestly, if you forget how zippy our phones can be, go try a Froyo ROM for a while. IHO is good but unless Blarf can get the S GB stuff in for our phones it will lag behind the official release in most ways.

Just having CM isn't the end-all; it's the quality of the work behind it. Blarf is one man, doing sidework for the Optimus, whereas the official GB release would have LG's team, along with official drivers, a GB based kernel, and other things.

I know your intentions are good. But I have to ask is this your first smartphone? Ive had two other android devices and I thought CMX.XX roms would be the bees-knees but in reality what makes CM roms good is the built in extras. And the best CM roms are built using the official release of that particular phone.

CyanogenMod is truly a awesome piece of work but there are other talented builders. Look at MIUI builders or builders that take stock roms and make them work like they should have out of the box (Harmonia for example).

My point is just because its not a CM rom, doesnt mean its not quality.

Excellent guess!!! This is my first smartphone. I don't have alot of experience with others, except seeing laggy unrooted droids in action. I guess with seeing what the stock vm froyo was I didn't think a stock vm gb would do any better. I'm beginning to see I guess how it would he better... I'm not a programmer or anything so this is all a learning experience for me;) thanks you all for setting me straight. @Raul720 I would love super smooth scrolling, I suppose that could be rectified if we had better screen drivers?

Keep in mind, and this is not a knock on CM devs and it runs well, but...

Part of the big deal about CM isn't necessarily that its so fast or fabulous. There are LOADS of great roms for phones out there. CM is famous because it supports so many phones well. It doesn't matter how well (though it is good), a lot is simply hype because it's on so many phones amd has so many options. If Harmonia supported 300 phones, you can bet it too would be well known. Instead Harmonia is limited to the OV and support and announcements for it are limited strictly to this forum. Despite that, there are still thousands running it, CM probably has 50 times that.

It's kind of like saying Ford trucks are the best simply because they sell the most.

I know this wasn't at me but if they got the Optimus S stuff working right it would be as smooth. They just need to get the OTA parts and make it work.
