I ordered an unlocked Note 20 Ultra on Aug 6th and my order confirmation says "Sprint" is the model coming. I called and the Samsung rep said it could have been a "glitch' because the website was overwhelmed on the day I ordered.

Before I consider a return/exchange and lose discounts, etc, how hard is it to get a phone unlocked? I did a quick search but wanted some real world experience...

Because you don't owe Sprint any money it takes 1 phone call and about a 5 minute wait. You must however activate it on the Sprint network first before the tech can make any changes. It's also possible that it will be unlocked and just have a Sprint sim card so you might not have to do anything. Either way it's not a big issue.

Sprint is no longer. It's TMobile

Sprint/TMO told me the phone has to be activated in order to be unlocked and that they keep it on the network for 50 days "for your safety and protection" so no one takes off with the phone and tries to activate it elsewhere (seemed really unbelievable but that's what he said) - I had gotten the IMEI from Samsung so I checked and the phone is listed as "inactive" so they couldn't even attempt to unlock it.

It's true - I pay for the phones outright now and I must wait 30 or 60 days (I forget) before they can give me an unlock code (for ATT).

If you ordered an unlocked and you get a T-Mobile/Sprint model - I would have them send you an unlocked one rather than you unlocking the Sprint unless someone can say that the Sprint phone specs (band coverage) is the same as the unlocked version.

It’s all the same hardware with sprint version running bloated carrier software but unlocked running pure Samsung firmware.

Agreed if you paid for unlocked no way I would personally accept carrier version.

OP - I would say send it back and get the unlocked.
