Oreo first impressions

I think we need to give it a week or so for performance to settle.

Can anybody tell me how to change my settings so I can double tap the AOD and go directly to the notification without having to also swipe the screen?

Performance and battery life is about the same for me. I do like the small things like pip (works better than Samsung implementation previously), the long press of icons menu, automatically selecting app when highlighting text.

My battery life has been amazing. I would normally be at 19% by this time.

Annoyed that the notification count badge on the email (and other) app icons does not permanently remain to indicate number of unread emails, but rather disappears after the notification badge is swiped on lock page or if app opened, emails remain unread, app closed. Seems no simple setting adjustment fix. Annoyed.

+1

Looking at above issues, No one would like to update their OS. In general, when an update comes, It takes more space than the previous update and creates such issue like above.
Mine runs fine.

I haven’t got any weird issues as of now. Saying that no one would like to update their OS is kinda stretching it since before the update rolled out, people were asking all over on where the update is.

The Oreo update on the Note 8 is absolute garbage. I've had random power cycles, the battery life is draining faster than Nougat. The Google icons now have frames and you can't change it to remove them. The notification badges are now tied to the notification panel, dismiss those and the badge count goes away. why? we've lost the customization of the LED notification within native Samsung apps like email. I've already had to do a factory reset to lessen the random power cycles.

just garbage. not sure if its samsungs new 9.0 experience combined with Oreo, but this thing is half baked.

Frames or just cut out to resemble a squircle?

Because I’m seeing squircle icons due to Oreo’s adaptive icons. Don’t know why we can’t change the look system-wide though

What you said, the squircle thing. It's mostly the Google apps but a few others as well. The setting on icon shape is greyed out and you can't change it. Looks terrible. The notification badge count issue is more annoying though. Just because I dismiss a notification from the window or lock screen does not mean that I want to remove the count. I use the count to remind me that I still have a full message waiting in the app to read.

Is that somehow linked to the notification shade?

Nova does the same

Perhaps, I used to use Nova but haven't felt the need to in the last couple of years since the home screen and badging has gotten better on the stock UI with phones. It would be a shame to have to revert back to Nova.

Are you saying Nova badging acts the same way when you dismiss a lockscreen notification it also removes the badge count?

Yep. It’s linked to the notification shade since it requires notification access

I think the stock launcher does the same

I got my update on March 25 2018. It feels good on the phone. Makes it look somehow better with the Samsung Experience 9.
The pain Starts with
1. No more fast charging.
2. Error message of moisture in the USB charging Port.
3. Would not charge at all if Battery is drained, you could only get it up using wireless charger.
4. I do partition wipe 2 to 3 times a day.

I even wanted to downgrade back to 7.1.1 but was not able to.

I am in Nigeria.

Have you tried a different charger?

I use the one that came with an older Samsung USB-C device (Note7 before recall) and it’s fine on my end.

You mentioned a partition wipe. If that means a cache wipe, try doing an FDR?

It’s far from ideal but it helps with a lot of issues

I've ran across a few neat features, but nothing grand. Biggest issue for me is that the update took away my option to personalize my tones per contact. I realize I can download another message app for this, but I shouldn't have to. This was one my favorite features of my Note and seriously needs to be fixed. Adding to is great, but definitely do Not take away when these updates are done. The keyboard is better, But if you're gonna give us color options for it, please give us a spectrum of color options.

+2 the note is completely missing the whole notifications "dots" from Oreo. The default samsung mail client now no longer has notifications for new emails.

How is this not a deal breaker for more people. It may be time to head back to iOS for me....

What carrier are you on that your default Samsung mail client no longer has notifications? I don't think that is a Samsung problem. Mine has notifications with default mail client (and default message client) with Oreo on my VZW Note. Only thing missing is custom tones for individual contacts. If you are not getting notifications for mail on default app, check your settings - Screenshot_20180408-091247_Settings.jpg

Samsung Note 8 is nothing but 100% pure GARBAGE!!!! First time I didn't buy an iphone and decided to go with an Android phone and it's the WORST mistake I've ever made. The phone is basically a $1,000 Garbage!!!!! The freaken battery life lasts about 2 hours if you're lucky on a good day. Enough bloatware where it basically takes up 1/3 of your space right out of the box. I made one freaken phone call this morning and the battery is down to 39%!!!!!!!!WTF!!!!! Just nothing but GARBAGE!!!!!
