Oreo messaging notifications

That's not what people are talking about. They want to be able to set specific notification sounds for specific people. We can't do that anymore.

That's why he suggested downloading a different sms app because you can do it with another app. I totally understand not wanting to download another one and I agree you shouldn't have to , but right now that's the only other option.

Seems that Oreo has removed the ability to have custom notification tones per Google contact. Why do they have to screw it up by removing features?

I don't know if anyone has tried this, but I just found this app called Text-Tone Customizer
in the Play store. Very easy to use and works perfectly! You can assign a custom notification for individual contacts and then assign a notification for everyone else.

My main reason for wanting to use the native sms app is its the only one (as far as I know) works with my Gear S3. I was using textra and handcent which worked ok, but not perfect.
If it weren't for my Gear S3 I would be using textra

Hopefully Samsung (or whoever) will listen to their customers and stop changing stuff that ain't broken!

Ty I downloaded that app, but both tones come in, how do you change that, and yes comes over my watch

Seriously? All you need to do is use a different SMS app.

I have to say that it's easy for you to say, chanchan05, but we shouldn't have to use a different SMS. Why do you think it's ok to take away a user friendly function when so called "improving" Android? It's not ok. Google should remove their collective heads from that place and realize that they've alienated millions of users.

You seem to forget that the whole point of smartphones is that if it doesn't do what you want, there's an app for it.

Google is improving Android separately from what Samsung does. Android does not have the function of individual per contact notifications. It was something Samsung implemented on a deeper level than just individual apps in an interaction between their own contact and messaging. Google's improvement of Android broke this. It's simply an unwanted effect of Google's improvement not compatible with Samsung's additions.

Will Samsung rectify this in future by adopting the method used by other apps? Time will tell. But saying this is a deliberate action that alienated consumers just reeks of ignorance.
