[OTA][9/21] Official Jelly Bean JRO03O for the Verizon GNex

Re: [OTA] Semi-Official Jelly Bean JRO03O for the Verizon GNex

I'm back with more questions. :(

I have an unlocked bootloader, but the phone is not rooted. I used dmmarck's guide on "how to unlock the bootloader and root verizon galaxy nexus". I followed all the steps but stopped before step 14 to root the phone, and it worked perfectly. Now when I go into the command prompt I get this error "fastboot is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file"

Any suggestions?

Also tell me truthfully...I am really interested in the idea of flash custom roms...but is the fact the I am having so much trouble with this a sign I shouldn't be messing with my phone. :D

lol no, it's not. I'm always learning--so keep on reading!

For the fastboot thing, a few questions:

Are you in fastboot mode, aka the bootloader?
Are you positive that the fastboot drivers are installed? I recommend using Wug's Toolkit to install them, because it has two methods (automatic and manual, the latter of which I prefer and recommend).

Also, if you're using something like Linux/Ubuntu, be sure to use "sudo"!

I'm also going to be updating that guide whenever I get a massive chunk of time :).

I believe I'm in fastboot mode, phone powered off and plugged in, then I hold both volume buttons and power and get the green android screen with unlocked at bottom.

I've got the drivers. Installed the Samsung driver, then I uninstalled it and tried the pdanet driver. Same error.

I'm using Windows 7.

I will try Wugs Toolkit.

What I don't get is how two days ago I typed the fastboot command to unlock the phone, and it worked.

I've even tried using a different computer after installing everything again. Same error.

Can I download CWM from the playstore and update from there, directly on the phone without using the computer.

Wug's did the trick. I used it to install the drivers and that did the trick! Thanks for bearing with me and answering all my questions. I really appreciate it!!!! Finally, I have Jelly Bean.

No problem! For whatever reason, drivers never install--Wug's is the only thing that does it correctly lol

Same here, if it wasn't for Wugs kit I'd still be on ICS.

I declare myself to no longer be a noob!

I followed the steps on my Mac, resolved all the issues I had on my own, and rerooted.
It wasn't bad at all. I can't wait to see how my 4g improved. Best of all, NFL Mobile is working now!

I feel pretty good.

It's needlessly complicated, and while it gives you some advantages, finding something useful in the Cydia market is next to impossible.

Did you use the absinthe method? It is literally just one click and you're done. Took one minute.

Oh the process of jailbreaking itself is fine. Doing anything with it is needlessly complicated.

Re: [OTA] Semi-Official Jelly Bean JRO03O for the Verizon GNex

I loaded JRO03O and have had fun playing around with Google Now. I have noticed after using it for a few days that twice my device has turned off. I was not able to turn it on either time with the power button. I had to pull the battery and then I was able to power it back on with the power button. Has anybody else experienced a random power off? Also, where can I find the APK for NFL Mobile as with this build it doesn't recognize me as a Verizon user when trying to download from the market...

Re: [OTA] Semi-Official Jelly Bean JRO03O for the Verizon GNex

I have a couple of questions. Please forgive me for am I a newbie here.

1 - Why is CWM or TWRP required for performing these flashes? Will an unlocked GNex not allow you to do them from it's recovery menu?
2 - Do CWM/TWRP replace the stock recovery menu, or do you access them via the stock recovery menu - after loading one of them of course?
3 - It states that the stock flash will overwrite CWM/TWRP with the stock recovery upon loading. Am I reading that correctly? What about the Jellybean flash provided here - will it also overwrite CWM/TWRP upon loading?
4 - What is the difference between fastboot and the stock recovery menu/software?

My phone is a VZW Gnex and came unlocked. I'd like to install this flash of Jellybean and then root it. I see the steps above, and thank you for all of the information and files provided. I could probably follow the steps and have no issue, but wanted to ask some questions before I did something I would regret.

Thank you all for the loads of information you provide.

1. It won't let you flash those zips in stock recovery.

2. Yes. You can still get to it via bootloader though. "Recovery Mode"

3. Yes. I have a post explaining it somewhere in here in the last few pages. Regarding the other zip from Droid Life, I have no clue. But each of the updates provided will.

4. Fastboot is a command interface that flashes image or ".img" files on your computer, using a USB cable. Recovery generally flashes zipped packages which contain image files, folders, and an update script within the zipped package. Fastboot is more direct.

Mine decreased. Having Google Now polling GMaps periodically definitely cuts down on battery life, I can see maps having 20 minutes of cpu awake time every day even if I don't open the application. This is relatively minor, though.

My battery is getting slaughtered at work now, reception is utterly terrible at work with the new radios (it has never been great in the building). For example, today it shows 73% time without signal in my office, before the update it was typically 30-40%. Luckily there is wifi, but having the radio constantly searching and reacquiring really burns the battery down fast. It won't last a full day anymore.

Re: [OTA] Semi-Official Jelly Bean JRO03O for the Verizon GNex

My battery life seems about the same, and unfortunately it doesn't seem to have helped with the radio either. I'm glad I updated, though. I'm loving jelly bean, and the phone seems quicker, more responsive.
