OTA underway

See, at VZW HQ, they have this giant hamster ball. They throw everyone's MID # inside on little strips of paper.

Primrose Everdeen was the first to get the update, but her sister volunteered for her...

If I'm on 232, I can go to 246, or back to 905. My big question is, if I go to 246, will I have trouble on the next update because I'm off the OTA train?
Or will there be a 246 fxz file then that can be used next time around?

Is the .246 OTA the same update that Samuri has available on his HOB upgrade?
246 Is the same, be it the OTA or via HoB. Once on it, you'll be on the OTA path again.

If that is the case, why doesnt everyone just HOB to .246?? Thats what I am going to do! Thanks for the intel.

Some folks aren't as comfortable as others messing with the very heart of what makes the phone work. I was sort of that way when I first got this phone. But thanks to places like this forum and all the developers and hackers like Samuri, I got turned to the dark side! ;)

It really is painless once you 'go there', though not completely risk-free, unless you have a full-proof way to get out of a jam such as an FXZ file.

I haven't lost one yet. As long as the update zip is on the sdcard-ext I can recover even a bricked phone. The REINSTALL option is a mini-fxz....it basically does what a real FXZ does however requires one additional step which is to apply the update in recovery to get a working phone again. The real FXZ doesn't require that last step. Otherwise they're the same. :) I've unbricked dozens of phones with that clever little addition to the HoB.

I would like to add that you should be sure your battery is still fully charged after the fxz performs. Other wise it will soft brick when it tries to install the .246 update. That is why the powered cable is recommended in the FAQ!

Has anyone even got the ota today? I havent heard much from anyone.

Usage:

o) Ensure you have a charged battery and/or a factory cable
o) Plug in your USB cable
o) Enable USB debugging
o) Set USB to Charge Only (Gingerbread) or MTP (ICS)
o) Start, Programs, House Of Bionic, House Of Bionic link
o) Select the version you want to install and follow the menus
o) Those wanting to REINSTALL or FIX the current release should use the REINSTALL option

Not sure how I can make that more clear. :)

why are you all messing with bricking your phones, just a few more hours and the OTA will roll out to everyone...maybe a day at the latest

it appears no one got it since friday/saturday...its like I said several times, every soak there are people who get the OTA who were not on the soak list...and every soak there is somoene who swears that the OTA is rolling out because a few people got it that was not on the list.....welcome to that group of people.. LOL

Oh good. All those who got it OTA since Friday morning when it started pushing will be happy to hear that. LOL :)

DROID Smartphones - Android Ice Cream Sandwich

Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich, operating system will begin being pushed to customers in phases starting Oct. 19 for DROID BIONIC by Motorola devices.

Why do I have to keep repeating this exactly?

Ask Samuri how many people have used HOB and are now running 246 with absolutely no issues. Pretty soon he'll pass Mickey D's with Billions and Billions served! :D

DON'T ask me how many people can't read directions and screwed up. Once the OTA is done, people are not going to like how the House of Bionic is supported going forward. It was not meant for people to have a push the button tool. And it seems WAY too many people just load it up and start pressing buttons figuring I'll just hand hold them through the steps when they end up bricking their phone. So no, it's not all sunshine and roses I'm afraid.
