I have Moto X 2014 just bought a month ago as the phone still has potential in it. I'm running Lollipop stock ROM. I read lot of forum that marshmallow got mixed review. So i want try marshmallow on my own. And im also planning to root. My question is What is the difference between upgrading from lollipop to marshmallow via OTA and upgrading from lollipop to marshmallow via custom ROM?

If i upgrade via OTA, can i reverse back to lollipop via custom ROM without any problems?

Please suggest me a stable custom ROM that work as stock ROM (any android version)!

Hi

Hope this helps! :-D

1. OTA Updating from Lollipop to MM, (Safer but loaded with bloatware)
2. Custom Rom for MM? (Little riskier, no bloatware, faster, MUCH FASTER ride!)

If you upgrade OTA to MM, and want to go back to Lollipop, you have to Root, and install a ROM, as there is no way to go back to lollipop, that I'm aware of.

Suggesting a custom rom, well Check out our Root Section of the forums, and see what others think. It would depend on your device.

Custom ROM depends on the ROM. Usually less bloatware, but not guaranteed. Also not guaranteed is all functions. The particular ROM may be missing Bluetooth ot GPS.

If you mean downloaded stock ROM, that's different. The only difference is that the download can't fail in the middle leaving you with a non-functioning phone. If it fails, the download fails and tells you so.

To go back to Lollipop in wither case requires flashing the Lollipop ROM. There's no "downgrade" that leaves all your apps and data alone.
