"Other" storage taking up 15GB?!?

Hi guys! I also have this problem, I don't know why the "others" occupy this large amount of space. I have 7 GB in others. I wonder if synced contacts from facebook to phone fills up memory? Can you reply guys. Thanks.

Could it be your music on Google Play. I know that if you pin your music to your device in Google Play Music it gets filed under the Other section.

So you're saying his OS is taking up more than double the space what most others' are??

I have the same unit and same carrier and I'm not even at half that.

Other is the os, app data, cache files, game data etc etc, in fact, everything other than the specific items listed, in fact, the figures for the specific categories are calculated from the default locations that such files are stored, so for music it checks the music folder etc. App data can also include any media exclusively contained within an app, for example, my phone came with a full 1.5gb copy of the movie Thor on it, but it was only playable through the HTC Watch app. It didn't show up under photos/videos so must have been listed under other. Check the Watch app.

hi guys ( sorry for bad English) I just got htc one as well and the first thing I did was checking storage. and then I noticed 4gb being used by "other" . then I installed some apps and transferred about 1 gb of music in my phone and now the space used by "other" is around 6gb!!! I don't know what it is but I guess it rises as you use more space, can you please inform me if anyone found a solution?

Usually it's old things u have on Ur phone before flashing u can put all Ur files u want on Ur pc and n deleted the intermal storage at n put it all back on. In other cases its shi t in the recovery such as back up or other files that the recovery or Rom has I had one that took 3 gigs up n it was necessary to have it

Hey...
I found the answer why it is so....
Download any of the file manager like Astro file manager or ES file explorer from playstore...
then turn on "show the hidden item"....You will come across a folder named ".estrongs"...Open it....
and then in the folder "recycle".....
all those deleted items from your phone would be lying....
Just delete it...and get ur spaces back...
its exactly as not deleting items from recycle bin in the computers...

I can tell you are all wrong. That "other" section in storage is not app data, nor cache files, nor anything. Demonstration in a spreadsheet I wrote:

The spreadsheet is no longer there. Could you send it to me, or maybe just give the key points right here? The "Other" on my AT&T HTC One m7 is currently at 16.06GB!!!

I erased that spreadsheet more than a month ago, sorry. I sent it to HTC in a support ticket, and I did receive an answer, they said "other" folder is just system apps preinstaled and may not be deleted (even though i clearly stated that this is not credible at all). I am still suspicious though, but i gave up.

Hi, I just bought a HTC Desire and noticed the same problem 6GB out of 8GB was taken up by "Other" and I have been searching the web so an answer too but didn't find much help. However the guys saying the "other" is data from games and OS are on the right track. The main culprit is social media apps, I deleted a chunk of data from Facebook and now my other folder is down to 3GB! Use the File Manager to located these files under the Android folder ... Cheers!

The <Others> folder in my HTC Desire816 is taking up 6GB out of 8GB too, but I don't have facebook on my phone, and all other social media apps take up less than 1GB space out of 8GB(and this 1GB not even under others, it's under Miscellaneous). I've deleted my broswer cookies, caches, history, I've deleted all screenshots, uninstalled games, but to no avail.

So I'm really at a loss now, my phone is warning me every single day that I've exceeded the 7.85/8.0GB limit annd I have to do routine cleaning but nothing helps bring it down to less than 7.6GB. I've uninstalled almost everything and all my apps/photos/videos/music are on my SD card. AND now the system is asking for 250MB free space in order to download the new system upgrade files. Help, anyone?

I am facing exact same thing ...My phone started acting weird and slow and I started exploring and I found this .. Now interesting part is

1. When I move photos to computer, the memory does not increase which is strange
2. When I went ahead for backup and reset option, erase data from SD card is completely disabled !

Any one faced the same issue ?

.estrongs---held 15 gigs of data and it appeared to be deleted movie files on my phone......check each folder and you may recognize what is in there....I just deleted mine and recovered alot of space
