Ouch!

Where did I say I made up my mind? Actually I want a phone with a well-rounded camera that takes good pics in all conditions, for all uses. Yes most of my pics are in good lighting so a phone that lags the competition in good lighting is not ideal.

Looks like you said it here ^^^^

Also, even if you are taking the pics in good light, there is no reason to expect the One to "lag" except if you are also going to signficantly crop the photo or making large prints. Viewing 100% crops in reviews, it does "lag", but 100% crops are not how I or most people will be using the pictures. Most people would rather have a picture of their kid moving in the house that isn't blurred or totally missed. With the one, you will get 20 choices of the best moment of those shots, including before you actually pressed the shutter, they will not be blurred, and they will, unless brightly lit, be better than the 13mp camera. This is why the One camera is not "sub-par".

Uh no, virtually every review says that the One fails to take as clear and sharp pics as other flagships and has less detail in good light WITHOUT ZOOMING or CROPPING. That my friend, is sub par.

You must suck as a lawyer; lawyers know don't have time to run blogs/campaign against little consumer products...lol

Well, of the reviews I have read, and the photos I have seen from actual users, my conclusion is that if the person knows how to take a picture, the one takes plenty sharp pictures at screen resolution.

I can certainly point you to many, many sharp photos taken with the One if you are having trouble finding them. I have also seen some horrid pictures, including in some reviews. Pictures that weren't sharp before zooming.

The important thing isn't that you can find lousy, blurry, crappy pictures taken with the One, the important thing is that you can find sharp, clear and detailed pictures taken with the One. I can also find you lousy, blurry, not sharp pictures taken with a Canon 5D, that doesn't make the s4's 13mp camera better than a 5D any more than it makes it better than the One.

Ignoring the very good pictures out there taken with the One and only repeating that it is sub-par point to troll to me.

Here is a discussion with HTC's camera guru. In one section of the conversation he says that a large file size, as in a 14 magapixel camera, would not be compatible with what they wanted to do, ie: Zoe's and Highlight videos. If you are not interested in those features, don't get the phone and stop bashing it. Personally, I am excited to find a phone with a camera that takes great low light pictures. And those that have the camera seem to be addicted to the Zoe's, as I probably will be. There is a tradeoff in the screen size as well, but they are using some space for two front facing speakers. There are always tradeoffs. It's whatever floats your boat. Oh, and please be a little more discerning in the reviews you post. That guy couldn't even spell.

Maybe you should read the review of the One's camera on THIS SITE before you call me a troll. Obviously the idiots that did the review for AC dont know what they're doing or talking about.

The phone's camera is that it is, probably the best is low light condition, not the best in well lit situation.
If that matches your need, great; if not, you should get another phone. That's it.

No, if anyone is an ***** it is they guy saying that they said anything different than what I did.

Quotes from the review "Generally speaking, the HTC One is able to capture shots that look good when viewed on a laptop, tablet, monitor or TV with all the downsampling that that involves. But when blown up to full 4MP size it?s clear to see there?s some quite aggressive noise reduction and sharpening going on. Telltale signs like graininess and artifacting around dark areas in daylight images (e.g. branches of trees) demonstrate that even with this new sensor tech, photographic aberrations persist in full-sized images. That?s not true of every image, but it?s something you?ll notice if you inspect your photos close-up."

"HTC probably isn?t aiming this camera at people who?ll use their smartphone photos at full resolution. In fact, we wouldn?t even include ourselves in that group. If you share images to the web, chances are the image you end up seeing will be 1- to 2-megapixels anyway"

If you need me to translate for you let me know.

Also, in my reading I found that to get the best results you will want to tone down the sharpening on this phone, which apparently wasn't done in this review.

And I don't care if it is android central or not. As I said, I can see pictures from actual users, that display great results. I don't need a reviewer to tell me what to think about the quality of photos I can see for myself. If you can't then by all means, you better get one that you can brag has more pixel thingys.

Wow, that's truly impressive. You managed to make the dumbest comment in this entire thread. Well done.

No translation needed and thanking you for making my point. The camera is iffy in well lit conditions.

You may disagree with some of the conclusions they've come to in a review, but the AC Editorial team puts a lot of genuine effort and good faith into their reviews. No need to insult them over any difference in opinions on a phone. :)

Lets all play nice now..

Indeed. Let's all respect that everyone has different opinions of the hardware and software, and we all have different points of view from which we build these opinions. Embrace them, and keep things friendly. ;)

I think you missed the sarcasm there mate. I was praising the AC team, the other poster was in denial that the AC team had bona fide criticisms of the camera.

I think that is a terrible conclusion. We will have to wait and see, but there is no reason that the camera should be worse for typical uses. Typical uses are sharing online, by email or perhaps even some small prints if you get a snap you like.

There are, however, several reasons it should be better for these uses -

1) smaller file size which means a) less storage, b) faster processing by
the phone c) more frames per second d) zoe
2) Optical image stabilization
3) faster lens
4) larger pixels

There are plenty of great photos out there already taken with the One. There are also a bunch of crappy photos. This just means there are a lot of crappy photographers and people who don't know what they are doing.

Now, will the 13mp camera with a slower lens and no OIS take better shots with good light if viewed at full resolution (i.e. zoomed into)? They better because good light takes away all the advantages of the One. Then zooming plays to the strength of the 13mp camera. However, if I want a good picture that I can zoom into, crop, or for important occassions, I am not going to be using any cell phone camera, but instead a DSLR or my RX100 (maybe).

Makes sense

What photographic background do you have, and what need do you have for a camera with an unwieldy sensor? The smaller sensor makes a lot of things possible with the One that aren't possible with a more mp. There is a lot more to photography than mp, and I think for me the tradeoff in resolution is worth it. Even at 4mp you have to size it down to display it on a screen anyway, so your are not losing anything.
