Outlook.com contacts locked

Hi

I use an outlook.com email address as my primary contact address and as such I have set my contacts app on the Nexus 4 to sync with outlook.com so everything is up to date. This worked perfectly because I had all my contacts on outlook.com and when I set up the Nexus 4 everything populated to the device. Yesterday I had to update a telephone number for one of my contacts and noticed something unusual. When clicking 'edit' I see the contact is split in to 2 'panes' ( one headed as gmail and the other as outlook.com). The problem is I can't edit the outlook.com details as it says the info cannot be edited from this app. It appears at present to be a one way sync from outlook.com to device with no ability to manipulate the data at device level. This seems really silly to have to edit the contact only on your desktop and not the device. I'm keen to avoid the gmail contacts route as 1) it will be a headache using outlook.com for email with all my contacts in gmail.com 2) I'm not keen on uploading my contacts to Google because it just means I'm farming them data of my contacts which at the very least will be harvested.

My preference now is to see if there's a way I can edit outlook contacts from the People contacts app. For all I know this is a Microsoft thing rather than anything with Google only wanting you sync People data with their services.

Has anyone come across this?

I had the same issue. Could not edit or delete contacts from the phone, had to do it through Outlook.com. My solution was to import the contacts into gmail, and sync the phone contacts that way. Not a real solution, but more of a work around. It does **** me off a bit, as it is not a true "sync" that way, but more of a "read-only".

I was coming to the same conclusion. Glad I wasn't going mad and missing something!

Cheers

I have the HTC one with the 4.3 Google Edition rom on it, and I just deleted the outlook app and set up my Hotmail account via the stock mail app. I can sync and edit contacts just fine. The downfall is that you will only have one calendar synced from your outlook.com account, i.e. if you have the default calendar + birthday calendar + public holiday calendar +... Only the default will sync which is still annoying

I do exactly the same and it works fine.

I have the same problem. When I used the (Samsung Note 2/4) native email app and defined an Exchange account, it worked properly, but the Android Outlook app has locked all my contacts so I can only update them on the PC. What a stoopid Microsoft 'feature'. Are they that lazy or mean to not implement full 2-way sync and on-device contact edit?? :(

The only way I could get my Outlook.com contacts to sync correctly with my Droid Turbo 2 is to:

1. Use the default email client, and set up a corporate account.

2. Or use the Nine app from the Google Play store which costs $9.95 after a free 10 day trial.

The official Outlook app is a DISASTER as far as contact syncing. I also found that if one has the same outlook.com account attached in more than one app, then contact syncing is also a disaster.

It appears to me, that the built in Google EAS synch is seriously flawed as someone told me in another forum that Google won't give 3rd party apps permission to use it's EAS sync. Shame, Shame on Google if that is the case....

Can someone please help on how to properly edit exchange server contacts, synced through Outlook app.

We try to edit the contact, one can edit very few fields : name and tel nos. Other fields are not even visible on the edit screen!
