Overclock Bionic?

I rooted my Bionic for two main reasons, to freeze the vzw bloat and to be able to crank the processor speed up. I havent seen any info on this other than people trying to slow the processor down to save battery life with limited success.

Have I missed something or can we not overclock these phones yet?

I have SetCPU that I used to overclock 2 other phones. I can slow the Bionic down and can set a minimum speed but cannot speed it up beyond 1ghz. I have not tried anything else.

I don't think we can overclock them just yet. Just until the devs unlock the kernal.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

You are correct. The kernel determines the ability to OC. Until/Unless the bootloader is unlocked, we won't be able to load a custom kernel. So, no OC yet

I'm not sure it's that black and white. I'm pretty sure that the Droid X (at least on Froyo) could be overclocked (using DX/D2 Overclocker) while the bootlaoder is locked.

not to mention, with a dual core processor, the overclocker will overclock one core while leaving the other one untouched....pretty much screws up the dual core advantage

I'm hoping to overclock soon, mainly just to do it. The bionic is already fast as is...but with android,if you can do it...why not?

I would have to assume a OC app will be developed for the duel core phones that clocks both.

Very true. Set cpu does ask for device specific settings. An update from the developer would change that quickly.

so, this is my first Android phone, what is the "normal" time frame for cracking the os to allow overclocking? Not surprised if it's taking longer with this phone considering we don't even have a good extended battery case available yet, lol.

Hopefully soon. Im also waiting for this. Overclocking and undervolting please. I can donate! (Stress. Testing too?)

bump, do we know if anyone is even working on this?

Im not sure. I've been waiting very patiently for it though! Please someone make this! Willing to donate! I already bought android overclock which for the time being is useles to me. Looking to overclock and undervolt!! Please please!!

I bought this extended battery and it lasts WAAAY to long so I need something to drain it hehe...

I would like to over clock my bionic, had no interest in doing that to a phone until now, I just saw that its the same chip thats in the RAZR, so, I would at least like a small bump to 1.2 GHz, and then maybe an extended battery.

far as I know its not unlocked for over clocking yet. When it is I plan to go higher than 1.2 though, since that's stock for the Razr Im sure it can handle 1.5.

What is so slow about people's phones that need to overclock this thing? Lol serious question tho.. Mine is lightning fast. Try out one of Th3ory's roms, and you'll see how quick and smooth it can be with no need for overclocking :)

but it could be even faster with OC! :) Honestly its plenty fast now, Im just a mod junky and love making stuff better/faster. Only reason I haven't ROM'd yet is im waiting for the official OTA.

lol fair enough... If you're a junky im shocked you haven't grabbed the ota yourself then.. I was a noobie just recently and I got it done no problem :)

Im really tempted to, but from my understanding that is not the full OTA. I have limited time to spend wiping and restoring my phone, so I just figured I would wait until the official release, then upgrade and install a ROM. Then I only really need to worry about doing it one additional time when ICS is pushed to our device.
