Paid $1,600 for LESS-THAN-PERFECT hardware! (S20 Ultra)

For $1600 the phone should have came with a camera ready for the typical cell phone user to use easily...... cell phone purchasers aren't professional photographers, and Samsung knows that. They just wanted another cash grab and once again got caught with their pants down.

They're not worried though because we've shown them they can pretty much do whatever they want and we'll keep paying more and more for their phones. The skies the limit right? LoL
What problems are you having with the Ultra?

As bad as it is to say it I'm amused by the fact Samsung has given us arguably the best camera ever in a mobile device yet people whine and complain because it doesn't act like the old cell phone cameras that they also complained about.

If you actually compare several generations of Samsungs phones the depth of field has gotten more shallow as the image sensor got bigger and they increased the aperture. It's just never been this big of a jump in a single year.

Considering Sammy recently announced another larger image sensor for phones, I expect this trend to continue as they attempt to take on the camera market with actual image quality instead of AI gimmicks like Google.

Here's a site you can go to check how the current years best phone cameras stack up before you want to argue "the best camera ever in mobile device." I mean to say that... is like saying Samsung's camera system is so good that... it "changed photography" lol.

The real truth in this whole matter... they released the phone knowing there was a serious autofocus issue... enough that reviewers with pre-production models were told that a software update was coming out at release to resolve the issue. @Mike Dee... I kinda call that a QA issue when you are willing to release a product with issues. It's like a restaurant sending out your dish to your table knowing the sauce is a little off today.

Let's hope the Note 20+ can restore a bit of Samsung's image in the camera department for this year. They took out TOF and put in laser focus... they just weren't going to get the results fixing it as is... another sign they knew. Just hope this isn't some quick patch job too in order to keep the Note 20+ on schedule.

And... the 100X "SPACE ZOOM" is not a gimmick?? :p

I personally am a fan of the zoom. Although I haven't really used 100x I've seen several pictures that look decent considering the zoom setting used.
It's amusing how the Ultra's biggest critics have never used the device and insist it doesn't take great pictures. Granted, some who own the device are unhappy that it doesn't shoot their kids and pets indoors like a Pixel and I understand that. Those who complain about a shallow depth of field don't understand photography or don't care to make the effort to make it work. Those still talking about the autofocus issues are a bit behind the curve. But, again, I just don't understand the need to constantly complain about things they don't own and have no intention of owning. There's a lot of phones I won't touch, but I refuse to spend my days complaining about any of them. Buy what you like, like what you buy

It's gonna be the size of the phone.
And carrying it.
Everybody don't have big hands.

I got a note 10+.
I'm tired of toting it around.
Makes my right hip hurt carrying it in my back pocket.

Disagree....people misuse the terms QC and QA constantly and don't know what the difference is.

No, I didn't read your post as snark, but the post you quoted appeared to be. Sorry if my comment was misunderstood.

The post you quoted had nothing to do with you.

I've been here since 2011, and was just looking at some old post of mine and this kind of struck me as funny because in one post I was complaining about a Nexus or Samsung phone that was coming out for $300. :D :D I think the iPhone was $550 or $600 back then and I assumed only rich people could afford one of those. Now look at me, paid $1K for my S10+ at release. What a fool I was.

Pretty crazy huh?? Price of inflation I guess... Back in 2011, there was the iPhone 4S that sold for $599 and Samsung released the SII for same price. And here we are... in 2020... and the iPhone 12 is going to sell for $649?... and the S20... $1099.

Boy I miss those days of subsidized pricing for $199 eh?

With these prices you would still be paying 600 to 800. The note 4 was 400 subsidized. Trade-in promotions are better if you have a reasonable device to trade in.
