Panda says screen and battery suck?

I hope he's **STILL** joking. I mean, weren't we hearing about a 2000mAH battery in this thing at one point? And shouldn't Ice Cream Sandwich give us better battery life over, say, Gingerbread? I mean, Honeycomb gets pretty good battery life so ICS should improve over that.

If Samsung/Verizon release an extended battery for this thing similar to the styling of the Bionic's, then I'll definitely buy the extended. All day heavy-use on LTE is worth the extra thickness. Hell, do we even know if the battery is removable on this Nexus?

This is the one aspect of Android phones that lags behind Apple IMO. It's a little embarrassing when I have to carry a charger with me and plug my Droid in at a friends house amongst my friends who are almost entirely iPhone users.

I was hoping ICS would bring an improvement on battery life. Not giving up hopes yet, though.

This is the reason the iPhone hasn't increased their screen size and they're holding off on 4G. Their users are accustomed to that experience and they're not going to sacrifice it for bells and whistles. Personally, I don't care.

Yeah I totally agree with you. I'm just a little surprised that there hasn't been much improvement on Android phones. But I guess batteries have had to keep up with larger screens and more powerful CPUs.

If it truly is limited to 6-7 hours, though, I might have to wait for an LTE phone with better battery life. I need my phone, especially when I travel and won't necessarily be able to charge it.

If I can't make it through a normal day, I am out. That should be the requirement for any phone to go to market!

I expect it will be in line with other LTE phones, which is not surprising since the second gen LTE radios are not out yet. We won't see good battery life on any LTE phones until that happens

I don't know what the forum rules are here, so I'm going to assume they frown upon vulgarity. That being said, I'd like it to be known that I'd be dropping the f bomb multiple times if I could. 6 hours battery life is such an absolute killer. This was one aspect of the Bionic that really made me frown coming over from iOS.

I don't need some sort of ultra-long 2 day battery, but I'd like to be able to get through a day (6am to 10pm-ish) with periods of moderate usage without having to recharge it. If this isn't the case, it may be a deal breaker for me.

Software updates can do a lot. They've been updating the Nexus' ICS everyday, according to reports.

This is a good point. And I don't know what BMX is basing his statement off of. Maybe it was an early version and battery life has increased? Who knows. But, in many cases, battery life can be improved with better software.

I'm thinking Samsung must have access to the second generation radios, otherwise there would be no way they could make the Galaxy SII and this phone as thin as they have.

No they don't. "Second gen" here refers to the generation of the manufacturing process: die process size (how small the transistors are), and those are just starting to sample this quarter. That's not to say that Samsung hasn't perhaps tweaked the design of the first gen LTE radios, but they don't have magical access to production methods that aren't online yet.

ICS should be fully multi-threaded, which should make the dual core CPUs even more efficient. The UI is also fully GPU accelerated, which should save some energy from CPU/RAM performance. And while there are no firm rumors, the phone clearly has a good size battery. On the other hand, the screen is huge, which will suck down more juice.

So we'll just have to see if optimizations in the OS can outweigh the extra juice needed to power the screen. If not I guess I'll be waiting for a 28nm LTE SoC-based handset, which means something announced at CES and shipped in Q2 most likely.

I sure hope battery life is decent!

There is no GS2 LTE phone so I'm not sure what you mean.

Sad that someone started a thread about a joke.. As for those asking who the panda is???! I'm rick James!

my usage is much higher then most.. I use about 4gb of data a day running test situations and the like. So 6 hours of battery is more than the bionic gave me.. I killed that in 3..

Wow. How long did/would the ThunderBolt last under those circumstances? Thanks for stopping by.

Thanks, Robrecht

Thanks. I was gonna ask how it compared to other devices to try and put things in perspective. So, your post is just what I was wondering. This does put things to rest, at least for me.

This makes me feel better. I use my phone light to moderate so maybe it won't be so bad and I don't currently live in an LTE area
