Pandora not launching in car

Hello,

I recently upgraded from my s8+ to s9+ (AT&T). I am having an issue with my new phone whereas I didn't before in my old phone.

I have a Kenwood DNX574S head unit in my car. As with all recent head units, there is a Pandora app. Before, I was able to click on my Pandora app in my Kenwood, my s8+ would communicate through the Pandora app on the phone. Another words, my Pandora app on my phone links/communicates with the Pandora app on my Kenwood car head unit.

Now with my s9+, I open the Pandora app. Music is played via the Bluetooth app instead of the Pandora app on my Kenwood. When I click on the Pandora app on my Kenwood, a "disconnected" message appears even with Pandora playing in my car through my phone app and Bluetooth app on Kenwood.

Any idea how to fix this? I do not have Android Auto installed and I also have enabled auto play under advance settings in the phone app. Please help.

Thanks,

Did it work on the S8 after the Oreo update? The app might not be updated for Oreo, and I'm leaning more towards the car unit as I have no issues with connecting to a Toyota Entune one. Only thing I can think of is the auto option in the Pandora app but it seems you have enabled that already...

I am having the same issue, upgraded from a s7 to a s9 with same Kenwood Bluetooth sync radio. Auto start and connect does not happen when selecting the pandora option on the deck

I have the same problem. And I have upgraded my phone as well. I would first suggest that both of you remove your old phone from the car stereo itself, if you haven't done that already. And, sometimes if you delete all phones and then re-pair and add your phone again to the car stereo will fix it. Lastly, I believe there is a problem with the Pandora software as it is not Auto starting the app when your phone Bluetooth is turned on. I have gotten it to work though. Open the Pandora app when you are in your car, make sure Bluetooth is turned on through your phone. When you get the error message on stereo and the Pandora app opens on your phone, hit the back arrow at the top left of the Pandora screen. Go to settings in Pandora app, then advanced. Uncheck the enable Auto-Launch for a quick second or two, then check it again, and Pandora should connect your phone and car stereo normally. This is a hassle, but works. Good luck

Hello,

The work around works but only for a single session. Once you turn your car off. Then start the car when needed, the Pandora still doesn't work. I would have to go under advanced settings and uncheck then recheck the box for Auto-Launch

Yep, that's what I have to do. Need to contact Pandora and have them fix the software..

same thing is happening with my note 8 since oreo. but my wife's S8+ is fine. I don't understand it

I have the new Kenwood DNX 995 which is the brand new top of the line model and its not working on mine as well. Went to the place that installed it and they called Kenwood because they couldn't figure it out either. So I guess Android did an update and now its not gonna work until they do another update on MAY 14th. Just found this out today so check your phones on the 14th and we'll see what happens.

Are Android updates on a certain schedule? I never noticed. I suppose it depends on the vendor? I'm on Verizon and I do get system updates, just not that often. I have had a few Pandora updates.

My problem is a little similar. I'm in a 2015 Buick LaCrosse. Pandora worked great with a Samsung Galaxy S5 but with a S9+ it keeps switching from Pandora to Bluetooth audio. 20% of the time it will stay on Pandora, the rest it switches to Bluetooth.

doing better then some I guess. Pandora doesn't work at all for us Kenwood users lol

just thought I'd post to see if it started working after the update today for you guys. it did for my note 8

I have an HTC 10, no issues after update to Oreo in April, BUT started having a problem with the May update to Pandora. Now works in NEITHER of my cars - a Mazda 6 and Hyundai Elantra. Won't even work with Android Auto anymore! Keeps telling me I do not have Pandora installed on my phone. I uninstalled and reinstalled the app on my phone twice. No luck. Will try unpairing from both cars and re-pairing but not holding out much hope. Is Pandora aware there is an issue?

This is a response I got from the tech peeps at Samsung:

Dear Bob,

Thank you for contacting Samsung Technical Support.

I understand your concern as Pandora auto launch is not working on your Samsung Galaxy S9 phone. I will provide you with the required information on this.

I have gone through the previous interactions with Samsung and see that you have contacted us earlier regarding this issue and performed all the troubleshooting steps to isolate the issue. I appreciate your patience and efforts in resolving the issue.

In this case, let us perform a few more troubleshooting steps to isolate the issue.

Troubleshooting steps:

A. Uninstall the Pandora application on phone.

1. From the phone home screen, swipe up the screen to get all the apps.
2. Select "Play store".
3. Using search bar, search for "Pandora" application and select it.
4. Select "Uninstall" option.

B. Clear the cache and data for Bluetooth application.

1. From the phone home screen, swipe up the screen to get all the apps.
2. Select "Settings" (gear icon).
3. Select "Apps".
4. Select "MORE" (3 dots on top right corner) and select "Show system apps".
5. Select "Bluetooth" from the list.
6. Select "Storage".
7. Select "Clear data" and "Clear cache".

Re-install the Pandora application.

Once you are done with the above steps, please un-pair the phone from Kenwood and perform a soft reset on phone and check with the results.

1. Press and hold down the Volume Down Key and the Power Key for approximately 7 seconds
2. The device should now restart.

Once you are done with the soft reset, please check with the results by using Pandora application.

If you wish to chat, email or call us for further assistance, please go to the "Contact Us" option available on the right hand side of the E-mail.

Sincerely,
Sai

don't bother unless you already have. they seem to have broke it again..

I tried, but only in the Elantra, and it made no difference. Pandora still will not load and it tells me my phone is not connecting. In the Mazda 6 it claims there is no Pandora loaded on the phone. In both cars Pandora ONLY works on Bluetooth and on Android Auto on the Elantra (Mazda STILL cannot get its act together enough to include AA in its cars). All was fine for a couple weeks after the Oreo update in early April, and then the **** hit the fan on both cars. I tried un-pairing and re-pairing in the Hyundai and it did nothing. I'm not wasting my time on the Mazda since I am certain at this point that this debacle is due to the Oreo update - even tho it took a couple weeks til the crap started. Now I am REALLY worried that I am going to spend over $600 on a new HTC next month and I'm going to have to deal with the same crap. C'mon Google - get your ACT TOGETHER! I would rather die than go Apple but I am starting to wonder if I made a mistake many years ago...

I am having the same problem on my Galaxy S7 edge after it updated to the oreo update on my Sony-XAV-W651BT that has Pandora exclusively. It worked flawlessly for several months until my phone updated now it only works on the regular Bluetooth hook up but not through the Pandora option on my stereo so I don't get all the options that I pay for and loved before.

just had an update an hour ago my truck is in the upholstery shop. can anyone comment on If it was fixed

Can tell you it has not been fixed. In fact it's getting worse! Ordered an HTC U11 today. Still comes loaded with android 7. If it works I will NOT NOT NOT be upgrading to Oreo till Google fixes this problem. Geez, don't they test this stuff before they release?
