PC No Longer Recognizes Samsung Note

So, I've been scouring the internet for the past 2 hours looking for a definitive answer/solution, but have come up empty.

For some reason, my Galaxy Note is no longer being recognized by my PC. Whenever I plug it in, all it does is go through the MTP Initialization process and stops. I can't access any files or anything.

I've gone through the Settings > Wireless Networks > USB Utilities > USB Mass Storage > Connect storage to PC and got nothing.

I've been trying to fix this because I just got back from a month long vacation and want to upgrade to ICS. I installed Kies, went through their "Troubleshoot Connection Error" process where it re-installs the Samsung USB driver and still no dice.

Right before the trip, the phone worked fine as I uploaded several movies and TV shows onto the phone without issue. Since then, I can't get it to work.

Any suggestions/tips/comments?

I had a similar problem with my Galaxy Tab2. I had to completely uninstall Kies then re-install it.
I even rebooted my laptop after the install just to be sure it was a clean one.

Then, I had no problems connecting my Tab. Might be worth a try.

The issue is beyond Kies, my PC doesn't even recognize the device at all.

Through my Google searches, I've seen others with the same problem with other Samsung products, and have tried some of the suggested fixes for those devices, but nothing has worked.

I more or less need to know if it's a hardware issue or there's some kind of workaround. If it is hardware, I can likely exchange it out.

There was/is some issues with Kies lately. Some of the issues are with Kies itself.

When you open Kies to upgrade to ICS, Kies will need to be updated to a newer version. Other people have said that this newer version of Kies is breaking the relationship of the Note and Kies.

I actually had to install the Note's drivers twice before Kies would recognize my device.

Have you tried installing the drivers from Samsung's website instead of letting them auto install? It may not make a difference, but it couldn't hurt.

Just uninstalled Kies and the Samsung mobile driver and only re-installed the driver, still nothing.

All the phone does is go to "MTP Initialization" and I can't access any of the files through my computer.

DId you reboot your phone and check that the USB cable is plugged directly into PC not hub? This helped me.

Never used a hub, always directly connected it to the PC.

I tried another computer and same thing, phone automatically goes to MTP Initialization and the PC doesn't recognize that anything's been mounted.

It seems this is an issue that others have but don't have any solution for. I may just end up swapping it out and hope it's not a widespread problem.

EDIT: After rebooting the phone and downloading this "USB Mass Storage" app from the Market, I got it to work and I'm downloading ICS!

Go under Settings. There select More under Wireless and Networks. There you see an option for USB utilities. That will allow you to connect to a PC without the MTP protocol kicking in. Just have to make sure to connect it this way first before you plug in the USB Cord.

Those are the options from ICS though. I thought with GB all I hit was Wireless and Network and the option came up, I don't think there was a More option.

I had that problem. I turned off my note and turned it back on after 5 minutes then reconnected it to my cpu and it started working again.

Yeah, I had tried that several times. It took me reinstalling Kies, reinstalling the Samsung mobile device driver twice, restarting the Note, downloading a separate App from the Play Store that essentially forces "Mass Storage" when you plug in via USB to get my PC to recognize the phone.

But I got my ICS update and all is well.

I had this same exact problem, I was able to connect to my pc with my usb cord, then all of a sudden one day it decided not to recognize my samsung galaxy note 2 phone. I called samsung techs. I was told to go to settings>Developer Options>turn ON developer options > go down to USB debugging and check the box. I did and my windows 7 laptop that had always recogonized my phone before, still didn't recogonize it. I was asked to try it on my other computer "Windows Desktop", and it still would not download the USB driver it kept saying it failed, yet I could actually find my phone in the "my computer", so then I was told it had to be my laptop computers problem even though it worked fine on it before and even though the driver wouldn't install properly on the desktop, but before even trying the desktop, I was told I needed to do a FACTORY RESET for my whole phone, which by the way I had "JUST", finished setting my phone up and getting all my apps situated & downloaded in. So I got to thinking about the whole situation and from the beginning I was told to "CHECK THE BOX", for the USB debugging , under the develper options, which clearly has a POP UP window when you check the box, it will say that some devices may not work properly with the box checked, so I UNCHECKED the box & went back and plugged in my USB cord again into my laptop first, and it DOWLOADED the USB DRIVER right away, and I tried it again on the desktop & sure enough it downloaded the driver right away again. So I think the first time there was some sort of glitch that happens to the phone perhaps it may have something to do with the antivirus software that I downloaded before I plugged in the USB cord, but I also had uninstalled & reset my phone back to factory settings to & it still didn't recogonize until I "UNCHECKED" the box for USB Debugging. So to make a long story short (lol), :D Make sure your USB debugging box is "NOT" checked, then try to plug in your USB cord again & it should work for you this time. GOOD LUCK. Hope this helps.

Unfortunately, my drunk ass dropped and broke my Note 1 soooo yeah...but I fixed my Note II and I love it!

I had the same problem. Here is how I solved it for Galaxy note II

1.settings
2. more settings
3. nearby devices . Share your media files with DLNA
4. check box file sharing.

All these was done with the phone still connected to USB. The device was recognised immediatelly.

Regards,

Thank you.... I have been trying for months to fix my phone I have spent hours searching and all I had to do was uncheck the usb debugging box and my problems were solved! My phone use to work and then I believe in one of the upgrades that became a default setting. So frustrating. I love you Samsung but do you do this to us??

Hi,
I have a Galaxy note 10.1 and when I connect it to my USB port on my PC, it makes the connection noise, but nothing shows up on the computer window, or desktop, making me unable to do anything.
Also my tablet says that it has a strong wifi connection, but when I try to open anything that requires the internet it says that I am not connected. I tried both of these steps :
"Go to Settings
Select Application Manager
Select All (Look for ALL on top menu or swipe left to go right to ALL)
Select Network Locations. Select Force Stop and tap Clear Data.
Go back to All and select Google Services Framework.
Select Clear Data.
Turn off (shut down) your tablet and turn it back on.
Test your issue with wifi again. See if it will connect to wifi or still have the same issue.

But it still does the same thing.
and I even installed Kies 3 onto my PC to try and make it pick up on my tablet (because it always has done in the past) But it still wont come up on the computer.
Please help!!
