Pentile Screen Opinion/Topic

Not seeing it doesn't mean you have bad vision(unless you consider 20/15 vision as "bad") Different people see different levels of graininess, some people with excellent vision see none at all.

People seem to forget that almost all of the detail we see is black & white not color. I think the people that are extremely bothered by the pentile pixel structure may have a better ability to localize color than other people. This says nothing about your actual vision.

Another point to consider is that our eyes are great at adapting. The more you use a new screen technology the more "used" to it your eyes will become and the less you will notice things like the pixel structure.

Re: Pentile Opinion/Topic

I think lots of people see it but just aren't bothered by it.

true statement right here. Like I said I am not a fan of the SA+ screens because they over do the colors. Pentile according to some is too pixely. I think in the end I would rather have a few pixels out of place than really overblown and stupidly exaggerated colors on my screen. I have had corrective laser eye surgery and can see 20/15 (so yeah not blind in any regards) and to me the Pentile is not as bad as people are making it out to be. In the end to each their own but I know come August 4th I am buying a Bionic.

Well, pentile doesn't bother me too much. I really like it because it's great on battery life.

Re: Pentile Opinion/Topic

I have no issue with Pentile, I do think SAMOLED has better color and better quality. The picture quality on either is fine...

Re: Pentile Opinion/Topic

There are some facets of this somewhat tiresome topic that is reminiscent of audiophiles babbling on about gear.

Some are never satisfied and just absolutely insist vacuum tubes and extreme priced Macintosh speakers. That they are not happy unless they can hear the roadie receiving sexual favors under the stage in the middle of a rock concert in the recordings. More power to them..

I played around with the D3, and overall I thought it was fine. Yeah, I saw the Angry Birds demo with the ghosting behind it. I can live with that. If it REALLY comes down to needing to get good assessment of an image I can always use the HDMI cable connections.

If I get it and the screen is just unbearable, then I'll return it. Simple as that.

Re: Pentile Opinion/Topic

I think the) problem with pentile is that people already know to look for these imperfections about it so they concentrate on that. Bet if you show a pentile screen to a non tech person that has no knowledge of the different screen types it would look fine to them.

Yup. 99% true. My dad has a DX2 and he has no clue about pentile

The display on my OG Droid is awesome :) If only it responded when I touched it ;)

.

I was thinking the EXACT same thing reading these comments. (Not the roadie part, but other than that)

Now I have a DX and I like it. The screen is fine until I put the wife's TB next to it. If the DX has a slightly better screen then I will be happy. I am more concerned with Sunlight reading. If that is improved then I will be a very happy person since I hate trying to ready the phone while outside, which I am a lot all year round for work.

I think most of us will just walk into a VZW store when it is released, play with it, and then decide.
I personally appreciate all of your different opinions on this topic and I have learned some things, but the final decision will be with us all as consumers. I like the other specs of the phone and unless their is some drastic problem with the screen, I am sure it will suit me just fine.

Can anyone tell me how good the screen is supposed to be?

How would it compare to a Droid X if you held them up side by side?

Any pros/cons over the X to viewing it outside?

I'm probably going to pre-order this phone and was just wondering what to expect. Thanks for your input.

Re: Can anyone tell me how good the screen is supposed to be?

We don't know as no one has seen it yet. Chances are it will be a pentile screen like the Droid 3 and Droid X2. Go to a Verizon store and look at those 2 phones to get an idea. There's always the possibility they go with a different screen type but I doubt it.

Re: Can anyone tell me how good the screen is supposed to be?

This has been discussed to death, and then some, in other threads...nobody knows for sure, but it will most likely look alot like the D3 screen. Check out the Pentile screen thread.

I love the pentile display. Its great in sunlight, much more battery efficient and even the whites are excellent. I like it better than the tbolts display.
