People Edge - how to cancel a default number for a contact?

Most of my contacts on my People Edge have multiple numbers ... on one I've obviously hit "Set as default" by mistake so when I hit that contact I'm unable to select a number ... I have to go with the default.

Is there any way back from making this error?

I've tried removing and replacing the contact but my phone still insists on calling the "default" number.

You need to do that from the Contacts app. Just go to the contact you want to 'fix', and you'll see a checkmark on top of the number you set as default. Just long-press on that number and select 'Clear Default'. Done! :)

Thanks for he quick answer but it's not the solution in my case.

Went to Contacts app and found none of the numbers (including the default one on People Edge) were marked with a checkmark.

Nevertheless I marked the offending number and then cleared it. No difference when accessing the contact via People Edge.

Went back to Contacts and marked a different number as the default. Went back to People Edge to see if it accepted the change. It had not ... still insisted on phoning the original default number!

Oh! The joys of Android!!

Actually, the joys of Samsung's apps... People Edge is exclusively theirs. And that's VERY weird. I just tried it on mine (added a contact with multiple numbers, initially asks me which number to call, set a one as default, Contacts app shows the number with check mark, cleared it in Contacts app, and People Edge now asks for number selection again...) and it works as I described.

Not sure if you can clear People Edge cache or data in the App manager or if removing it and re-adding it to your panel would help.

Thanks for trying to help ... oh, and I accept it is a Samsung app ... as you say, unique to them.

I assumed I must have hit "set as default" by mistake. I now don't think I did. I found that with all the contacts on my People Edge who have (multiple contact numbers including landlines and) a mobile number, then it is the mobile number which is automatically selected.

However if I have a contact who only has landline numbers then I am offered the option of what number to select. If I set one of these numbers as default then the system for clearing that default is exactly as you describe it in your original answer.

So it seems on my phone that People Edge automatically selects (as default, without apparently giving me the means of clearing that default) the mobile phone number if it is available.

Sorry if I initially misled you ... grateful for any thoughts! Or maybe I will just have to live with this eccentricity!

Yep that Samsung people Edge/ direct dial Edge is restricting you to a default contact no. or a list pop-up to choose a number. All I want to do is direct dial a number of my choice - this is prevented. Also you can't choose a contact photo from any folder as before. Samsung are making their phones useless. Another problem is that when you use the "Direct dial edge"
(which you download separately) you can't edit the contact name. Lets say you have 3 phone numbers on direct dial, you would have no idea which number you are dialing.
