People receiving your phone--how is the signal strength?

In dBm (NOT bars) is your signal strength better or worse?

In the -80s is totally fine. Some people sit in the -70s, which is pretty good. The problem with the Nexus is people were in the -100s and -110s.

My RAZR sat in the same area. With I.C.S. Do how am I supposed to believe that's actually a bad score when I was always able to make a call and pull down d

Is this good? Cause I still get a lot of dropped 4G connections with it.

Is my phone faulty or is this normal/to be expected?

I can't help but think there's something wrong with your phone. I'm sitting in my office where I'm getting around -115dB with the phone sitting on my desk and LTE stays on just fine. It does drop to 3G if I put it in my pocket (which means it's under a metal keyboard tray connected to a giant wood and metal desk), but it's in my pocket so not exactly a big deal.

It is worth noting that I do get occasional instances where the phone seems to "forget" a client/server data connection (e.g. facebook brings up the retry screen or the play store fails to load a page) but that's only been in my office and I blame it on a borderline signal. It's always loaded after hitting retry. That's never happened at home (though that's on wifi) or out and about, though I haven't used the phone much other than at home and work so far.

This happened on my old device so I don't think it's limited to one device.

-116DBM CURRENTLY Sitting in my house. So bad that I tried to make a phone call and could barely here what the other person was saying. Also only showing up as 3g, however my Xoom is next to it and is showing 4g. Xoom is at -100 right next to it for comparison.

My signal strength was around -70 dBm with my DX at home, with my SGIII it is about -90. I didn’t try making any calls, but it stayed solidly in 4G service and data speeds seemed fast. Today at work I am getting -110 or worse with my SGIII, always got -90 with my DX but never had missed or dropped calls. Unfortunately I tried calling myself from my office phone and it went straight to voicemail, several times. I set the SGIII by a window and it would ring for half a ring and kick to voicemail.  I don’t care what the signal numbers say, if I can’t reliably receive calls at work I’m going to have to go swap for a RAZR Maxx…. Which sucks because I’ve waited for this phone for a month and I could’ve had the RAZR the whole time.

My Droid Charge was -76, my SGS3 is -110, it's pretty bad downloading less than 1.5 mbps...........

I had this problem with the Fascinate and the Charge. learned my lesson after that to not bother with the GNex and figured as much for the SIII

Easiest way to truly determine if there is a signal problem is to take your phone into a Verizon store (where the signal is amped) and check it against the other phones on display. Always found my Samsung phones to be about -20 DBMs weaker than the Moto and HTC phones there.

I'm coming from the HTC Dinc2, but the "phone" service is worse. I have dropped several calls since receiving the S3 last week. I'm getting anywhere from -85 to -100+ normally.

I'm coming from a DInc 2 as well. In my house I was always at around -90 to -95. Now with the S3 I'm at about -95 to -105. I have not yet dropped any calls, but I have had data connectivity drop down to 1x and have even completely lost data more than a few times.

I used the Speedtest.net app to test my phone (S3) against my husband's phone (Droid 4) and I was getting around 0.3 - 0.5 Mbps download speeds while he was getting 1.6 to 2.0 Mbps speeds. We are in an area where 4G is not available, so both phones are on 3G only.

I'm also having some issues with WiFi connectivity at work, where we have excellent WiFI coverage (it's a hospital, so we have WiFI EVERYWHERE). It seems like it can't hold the signal consistently. I was on the phone with Verizon tech support for about an hour yesterday and was told that this was a "known issue" already with this phone.

Says -100 in my house. Just ran Speed Test and got 10 down and 1.24 up. Never had LTE so I don't know how decent those numbers are. Youtube was smooth and quick. Apps are coming fast. Made a call to make sure it worked and I was told it sounded fine. Sounded clear on my end too.

Not sure what the signal strength tells me since I have lousy signal in my house anyway (live in a hilly area with poor coverage).

However, call quality in the house is fine with no dropped calls. This in comparison to just about all the other phones I have owned through the years, where I could not walk around my kitchen without losing the call.

So while the numbers are one thing, the practical translation for me is that I can make calls at home finally with my S3. Happy about that!

I know its not apples to apples since I had a 3g fascinate before, but the S3 is AMAZINGLY fast in the exact same areas where I got poor or even spotty 3g coverage with the fascinate. Signal numbers are ho hum (around -101) but speed tests show 5+ mbit where I was lucky to get a .5 mbit 3g connection before.

Your post would be more meaningful if you could tell us what your prior phones were. Were any LTE phones?

Coming from a Moto Droid 3, the Wifi seems to be better.

Real world 3G surfing comparision is too hard to compare since I can't use Adfree Android... :'(

Rezound (-87 dBm) in right hand. S3 in left hand (-104 dBm). Switch hands and they stay the same. But the reception for phone calls in my house is exactly the same. My Nexus was usually around -110 in the house.
