Performance issues? Really?

I saw 1000 people say the Same thing about the S4. All of them were blind or lying. I owned it. it lagged. (not constantly. but enough to **** you off knowing what was under the hood)

My S4 lagged at the start. my note 3 does not. Nor should it..it runs a snapdragon 800 afterall.

Altering benchmarking is nothing new: Cheating at Android benchmarks isn't new | Android Central

The decision to purchase a device should not be based on benchmark scores.

This makes me giggle. When android benchmarks were beating the iPhone, they meant everything to everyone (even though cheating on benchmarks wasn't new)
Now that the A7 is spanking every android processor on the market in benchmarks, they are suddenly no longer important.

I'm not bashing anyone here, it's just funny how 98% of the people on AC is all about specs specs specs, and how far behind apple specs are compared to android, but now the even with "lower specs" the A7 outperforms the SD 800, now specs don't mean anything anymore. And I love how everyone is acting like benchmark lies are no big deal, but if it were apple doing the lying, people would be nailing them to the cross right now, but its no big deal if android cheats... lol

Just like iPhone 5S 64 bit processor and 64 bit OS is a "gimmick" until android, samsung and htc do it early next year, then it won't be a gimmick anymore....

The issue is simple. Benchmarks are to easily manipulated. And as shown by this recent example appearently many are poorly implemented. What they are reporting as cheating is actually how the system should run under benchmark conditions. I would say everyone should have there phone cpu running at full speed when a benchmark is running. That would show us what they can do at therr best. If the cpu's are idle or asleep, then the benchmark can't really get a good measure.

64 bit is a gimmick for both of them right now. Not just apple. But next year it may not be as the hardware progresses it may become a necessity depending on what they do. The note 3 has pretty much 32 bit computing on mobile to its limit hardware resource wise.

With this hardware set? How crappy is TouchWiz anyway? Now that these last minute reviews are coming out, we're hearing about lag and stutter. Can't describe how much that pisses me off. I've been following every review and hanging on every word about how flawless this thing is. I'm pre-ordered on Verizon so I still have a week or whatever. Why is it OK to just lie in your product review? It's all going to come out when we get our hands on this thing and start the usual screaming. I'm flaming out here...

Maybe try it out yourself, I don't go by reviews..:) No lag no nothing on my note 3

Normally I would have not problem whatsoever with Samsung releasing the beast that lay within the Note 3 onto an innocent and unsuspecting benchmark. However, I wonder, are there any other real world conditions that would garner the same performance? All four cores unleashing their unrelenting wrath onto the an inculpable and ill-prepared world?

The Note 3 isn't going to magically correct issues inherent to Android. All levity aside, I think the Note 3 is just about as fast a phone as you're gonna find. There will always be someone, somewhere, in some parallel universe that says the fastest hardware still lags. I've not seen any reports (credible or not) of poor performance on the Note 3.

Someone is always going to complain about lagging on Android because of earlier models.
Android has come a long way ! With 4.3 and 3gigs of RAM from the Note3 there can't be lag !
Even the iPhonie has lag and stutters
If there was any kind of lag it's to be expected anyway! No computer or phone is perfect !

I've been waiting for the Note 3 for months. According to the reviews it's everything I had hoped for and more.

No other device has what the Note3 has to offer ! Soon we will see what nifty tricks people create with their Note3.
It happened with the Note2 as well. It's about the only device that can be turned into a full desktop.
The only device that came close this year was the LG G2 ..

You know your stuff bud ! ***thumbs up!***

It is a gimmick right now in the iPhonie !
That 64bit processor (Made by Samsung) can not be utilized with only 1gig of ram. It's basically useless !
http://www.cnet.com.au/apple-iphone-5s-64-bit-a7-chip-made-by-samsung-339345506.htm
Once Samsung puts a 64bit in their devices with 4gigs of ram it'll blow everything out of the water !
iPhone 5S 64-bit chip is 'a gimmick with zero benefit' | CNET UK

The iphone5S isn't that much faster than the iphone 5 even with the 64gig chip.
This proves what I'm saying above.

Could you please post a link to where the A7 spanks the Snapdragon 800. I have not seen this test and I am interested. Or are you saying the 5s outperforms the N3 in some tests like web rendering or stuff like that? Then you are talking about the OS performance and I dont think anyone will deny that android takes more horsepower to run than iOS or WP.

OK, Benchmarks are important, but they don't tell the whole story.

For example: My old car was built to be able to do 100 Mph, and get 20 miles to the gallon; but it won't do both at the same time.

Faked benchmarks should upset people, but in this case Samsung was not "faking" the benchmark results. Their mistake was not admitting from the start that when "benchmark X" is run the phone will run at full speed (not overclocked) to show what the combination of processor and memory can really do, while the rest of the time the phone will try to run "just fast enough" to keep the screens from lagging, while using the battery saving features to keep it running as long as possible.

You can run the hardware at full speed, or make the battery last; but you can't do both at the same time.

Samsung's mistake was not admitting from the start that they have designed the phone(s) to recognize when certain programs are run and allow the CPU to perform at its best speed (without overclocking). If you want full speed, all you have to do is get your app recognized as one of those "need for speed" programs.

But then again, that holds true for every smartphone manufacturer, there have been CPU tweaks for both Android and iOS devices since shortly after the first root or jailbreak exploits were discovered. Ars mistake was trying to generate controversy by not pointing that fact out as well.

Seriously, do people still use benchmarks to judge a phone's performance???

I do .. BUT i don't judge just by that ...
A phone could have smoking benchmarks but if it does not have a removable battery and upgradeable memory I'm not buying it !

How do you compare phone performance? Synthetic benchmarks are just one aspect of a phone. All phones running the same benchmark takes all other variables out of the equation. You think the pocketnow way is better than a synthetic benchmark? At one point the doofus says that they are almost the same speed, then the next time he says "much" faster even though it looked to be the same difference in speed. When the 5 beat the 5s it was just a little bit faster even though it was faster by the same amount the 5s was in the other "test". If you just want to see what reviewers think of performance, be prepared to see what Bias does to the perception of a phones performance. It can often be very drastic. Everyone is susceptible to that bias as well.

I want to know how to automatically make my phone run at full speed for all game apps. Besides changing the name of all my games to geekbench.

I've seen a video on YT where MKBHD (Well-known tech YouTuber) is doing a review of the phone, and the gallery app takes a couple seconds to open it, although it is the international version...Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Review! - YouTube
It happens at 8 minutes and 45 seconds. The voiceless commands are also slow and is nowhere near as good as the Moto X's voiceless commands

But over 2 minutes to open Gallery?

Would any other actual owners like to chime in and tell us if they
have the same problem?

I had this problem with the S4 until I unlinked my photos from Facebook and GPlus/Picasa in the Gallery. To me, is seemed like the Gallery App had to download the thumbnails everytime I opened the app instead of caching them.

I wouldn't take problems with the gallery app as an indictment of the performance of the phone in general. Its a statement that the gallery apps is still terrible. I switched to Quickpic 11 months ago because it kept crashing on me.

AnandTech | Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Review

In this review, there are a total of 20 benchmarks. The iPhone can't run every single test that android can because its not as "open"
The iPhone 5S is in 11 of those 20 test. The A7 Beats the Note 3 in 7 of 11 tests. But, the LG G2 also has a SD800 and the A7 beats it in 10 of 11 tests.
Samsung's version of the Note 3 SD800 is most likely a "special" version just like the SD600 in the S4.

Of course the A7 is a dual core clocked at nearly a full Ghz lower than the SD800. A7 GPU is quad core.
