Persistent email indicator

A long running issue on my S9+ running android 10, is that in Gmail, the notification that there is 1 unread email never goes away. Been there for a long time. I've tried everything that would normally be done. Anyone else with this minor annoyance, or a solution? Tia

As it's been there over a year, multiple cache clearance in the app and phone, and confirmed all mail has actually been read.

Try clearing data and Force stop it after

I was going to, but didn't want to lose my multiple email account set-ups. Do you know if my backup will restore them? Automatically? Or reenter everything manually?

I have 3 different emails and they all come back after clearing data and Force stop

Strange, are you using stock launcher?

Yes, and one ui, ver 2.5

Try clearing the launcher and force stop it but it will reset your home page set-up so back it up to PC Smart switch that way can easily revert back

Thanks. I think I will just live with it the way it is till my next phone. I'm surprised my S9 is still going as good as it is overall, so it might be a while.

Is this notification badge only on the homescreen shortcut icon, or is it also in the Gmail app itself (i.e., on the mail icon in the lower bar, where the Chat and Meet icons are if you have them turned on)?

Try turning email notifications off then back on again... maybe even restart the phone after you turn them off, then turn them back on. Something as simple as toggling a setting off, then back on again, can sometimes fix it.

It works quite often for the Google Assistant
