Persistent "System Update" never goes away

I'm already running 2.2 on my Droid, but the stupid thing continously prompts me to install an update (includes FLASH 10.1...etc). I've already got it, but when I let it "restart and install" it fails every time (I get the triangle-exclamation point screen).

Please make it stop!

Do you know if the phone has been rooted or not? Do you have ClockworkMod recovery installed?

no, it hasn't been rooted and no, I don't have ClockworkMod (never heard of it)

There should be an app/process running on your phone that checks for and notifies you of updates. It might even be obvious, like "Verizon-Update". If you disable that process you probably won't get that pop-up anymore.
