Phone Auto Scrolling to the Right

had the home screen moving to the left, blew into the track pad, and seemed to work, so must have gotten dust into there (thank god)

I had this happen as well and after a little forum-jumping I found one that suggested cleaning the joystick/trackball/hardware button....whatever you call it (the round button on the bottom of the front screen) and that worked for me. I think dirt and maybe even hair (for the bearded ones) get stuck in there and act like it is being touched. Like jamming a coin in your computer keyboard in a way that a letter keeps typing without you hitting it.

Had mine for less than a day and it started going crazy. Scrolling screens, soft-buttons that don't work (can't even power off). I finally got it to reboot, and then it does the same thing after rebooting. Cleaning the trackball didn't help. The only fix was to take the battery out...then all worked fine...until today. Started going crazy all over again with the same symptoms. Took out the battery...and now it is working again. But for how long??? I just waited over 2 weeks for this phone. Now I have to send it back and wait (for god knows how much longer) for a refurbished replacement.

Any advice, other than the obvious? Btw, this isn't an optical trackball issue with my phone. It still acted crazy in a dark closet, and in direct sunlight.

Otherwise it's a fantastic phone...when it works...

:( <sigh..sob..sniffle>

I think I found the problem. I have the exact same symptoms (click below):

I had the same issue and deleted a few apps that I downloaded the day before. It fixed the problem. It could be a coincidence, but I have not had the home screen scroll right and freeze since. Don't asks what the apps were because I don't recall, except one was the memo widget.

I hate to burst your bubble, but uninstalling apps won't fix that problem. It's an optical issue, a bug with that optical joystick.

The only thing that fixed it for me was getting a replacement phone. hehe

Mine was doing the same thing, only worse. It would scroll to the right, then left, then right. It would automatically scroll in other places. Here's what I have found. Wipe off the optical mouse. Mine must have had some dust or other object on it and the light was causing it to move the screen. Wiped it off and all is well.

This is absolutely right. I had a dust particle on the "joystick" that caused the auto-scroll. Wipe that bad boy off--no more scroll.

what does this have to do with the phone screens auto scrolling to the right?

The symptoms that I have INCLUDED auto scrolling. Whether or not these are directly related to the alleged "screen grounding," I am not sure. However, I was also able to duplicate the screen symptoms associated with this problem. I concluded that they were part of the same problem, although they may be two different problems with two different causes. Unfortunately, I have them both.

Interesting... I get the same thing. Auto scrolls to the right. Randomly selects items on the screen.

Didn't occur to me about the optical joystick. Will have to play around that. The few times it has happened, is always when the battery is running low.

Had the same issue after I had my Inc for 27 days. Reboot, battery pull, no help. Finally cleaned optical track ball, fixed. Has not been back since, over 30 days later.

This used to happen to me. Went to Verizon store and they said battery-pull would fix. Nope. Called Verizon support, I got a new phone. New phone doesn't do it. It's probably some kind of hardware glitch. GET A REPLACEMENT!

This has happened to me once or twice, usually after eating something too messy to realy eat in the car and after handeling the phone. Cleaning off the optical joystick fixed it.

Same thing happened to me. Ever since I got my new replacement a few weeks ago, it has not even happened once to me. It used to happen to me almost every day and I havent changed any of my habits either.

My personal experience is that it wasn't dirt or something on the optical pad, but rather the optical pad itself.

I haven't had this happen to me but seen it happen on the HTC Eris. Went in, clean the track ball did factory resets and all. I wonder if it has to do with HTC software contradicting with trackballs and track pads. It is very very annoying.
