Phone dialer screen goes black too fast

[Android Central Question]

When I am on a call, the phone screen goes black too fast even though the screen timeout is set at 10 minutes. When the dialer is open (so that I can mute/unmute on conference calls), the screen times out in 30 seconds. Any idea how to adjust the phone dialer timeout?

I don't know what the original poster's phone is but I have the exact same problem. I have an LG V30.

I have a new Samsung 9 plus that is doing the same thing. It's very irritating to have the screen fade to black so quickly hey. Frequently I don't even have time to select a department if I'm calling the store or anything else hands-free. Any help would be very much appreciated!

Yes, my screen does NOT timeout to fast, but the dialer does!

The screen should go black as soon as you put the phone to your ear if you're on a phone call.

I have a Zagg screen protector and not sure if and what it has to to do with dialer screen to go dark too fast during the call. The phone can be laying on the table and is not pressed to your ear, I constantly have to turn phone on to mute or unmute it. Very annoying.

The behavior described in this old thread sounds very much like a proximity sensor that's either blocked (e.g., by a poorly fitting screen protector or case, or by some grime overlying the sensor) or faulty. If there's a screen protector or case on, try taking it off, and make sure the screen is very clean.
