Phone keeps rebooting and optimizing apps what did i do? lol

Well.. if you are seeing that optimizing apps window, it means that it is rebuilding your ART cache... combined with the constant reboots, it could have very well been a problem with the memory on the phone.

The optimizing apps only started when I sideloaded 5.1 but hopefully the whole situation was a hardware problemand my new one willbe perfect :-)

Had similar issue on 5.0 on Samsung Galaxy S5, gladly factory reset was not nesesery - cache wipe solved the issue :)

I am having the same issues as bold1193. My phone is a little more than a year old, Google Nexus 5 purchased directly from Google. I just upgraded to Lollipop 5.1 through T-Mobile. I have times when it doesn't recognize that Google Play is installed or other programs native to the phone, are not installed. When it optimizes, it has to go through 189 apps, which takes about 10 minutes each time, draining the battery.

Any feedback or thoughts would be appreciated, thanks!

I'm having the same exact problem as the poster above me. Nexus 5 recently updated to 5.1, the phone reboots. Usually it optimizes all 140 apps, sometimes only approx. 50, sometimes less. This is usualy in a loop, but sometimes it boots succesfully. Additionally I am having problems with the wifi, which sometimes drops and refuses to connect. This is correlated with the reboots. I've tried factory reset and wipeing the cache, I'm now trying the WugFresh complete factory reset.

I'll update you if I have info, but I have a hunch this is hardware.

Tried everything, still the same problem. I'm assuming its hardware, so I'll probably return the device.

Since you are using WugFresh to Factory Reset and will lose your data anyways. If that does not work you may want to try to re-flash the ROM image, downloading a new copy of course. Sometimes you can just get a bad download. You could also just had a bad burn to the flash memory.

Yes, that's what I meant. Did that, didn't work. New factory rom, etc., verified hash, nothing changed.

Where did you buy the phone, if you got it from a carrier store I think I would pay them a visit and have the check it out. If you got the phone from Google or Motorola I would contact there Tech-Support and run it by them. Please keep up up to data here. Thank you.

help! the same thing is happening to me. It started today. My phone would turn off randomly and I'd have to turn it back on. Sometimes it will optimize app when I turn it on again. Sometimes it just restarts normally. I have the latest android ota updated.

Mine doesn't reboot, but when I restart my phone it has he pop up of optimizing apps, is that normal or abnormal?

I upgraded my phone yesterday from 5.0.1 to 5.1 Lollipop. After the first reboot it went through the Optimizing App Process which is normal. Then later when I reboot it again if did the Optimizing App Process again which was abnormal, it did it quickly the second time though. After this I reboot three time through the day and it never did it again. So to answer your question it is abnormal. How many time has yours gone through the Optimizing App Process?

Same issue here. Just enabled developer options and about to install adb hopefully I can find the process that's causing mine to shut down. Another thing to note is that when you turn off the phone using the off button or battery dies the screen usually displays a message saying that the phone is shutting down. I don't see any message the screen just goes black. This is a very frustrating problem.

If you do not come up with a solution you may want to download and new copy of the flash rom and re-flash. You may have gotten a bad download or a flash.

My Nexus 5 suddenly developed this problem after having used Android 5.1 for a few weeks without problems. Yesterday after a long car trip where the GPS was using more power than the car UPS charger could provide, it suddenly started rebooting, go through the "optimizing app xxx" for a while and suddenly switch off.

Turned out that the battery was flat and even having it plugged into the charger while booting either didn't supply enough juice to complete the boot. I eventually resolved the problem by letting the phone recharge overnight. After that the boot/optimize cycle completed and it has worked ok since.

Not saying this is the problem/solution in all cases, but worth trying if you have this problem.

Hi, I'm having the same problem for half a year and it's driving me crazy :( Now it reboots 20 time per day. I've done factory reset, I was trying safe mode - nothing helps. I think problem appreared after I'd upgrade it to 5,0 (officially) - but It's just my opinion, i can't strongly say that it's because of new version. Now I have 5.1 but nothing changed. What else can I do to fix it (I've no warranity)? :-\

*Solution found*
I had the same problem just after upgrading to 5.1. Fortunately i also had some issues with the original Nexus cover which is stiff and very annoying. Then I realized that the cover presses the right and left buttons simultaneously. I removed the cover, did the magic restart (fast clicks on the power button) until the phone got back to life. I didn;t put the cover back and surprisingly the original issue has not been reproduced since...
Apparently software changes between 5.0 and 5.1 included some modifications to the sensitivity or combinations of button clicks, that along with the stiff cover caused these issues. Or not and I'm just lucky :-)
Hope that it works for you too...
