Phone not making calls or not sending text messages

I have had issues when my phone is on where I go to send a text message or make a phone call and the call doesn't go through or the text messages aren't sent until I do a soft reset (take battery out) or turn my phone off and turn it back on. Why does it do this and how can I make my phone last until I can upgrade the phone?

Welcome to Android Central! What wireless provider do you have, and have you asked them about this issue? It might be worth asking for a replacement SIM card.

My first phone was replaced under warranty (AT&T is the carrier).A short time ago it started again (on the refurbished phone they replaced it with) AT&T told me to do the soft reset (taking battery out) when it started happening again
