Phone overwrites watch steps

Just been for a game of golf, recorded 6000 steps just on my watch, phone left in car. As soon as reconnect to the phone, the phone seems to overwrite my watch steps and now shows 900

Moto body is showing the correct steps on the watch, but why is the phone overwriting what the watch had recorded
