Help me Fred-wan Kenobi, you're my only hope.

Software: 3.70, Hboot 2.10, S-On

I received a new (refurb actually) Evo from Asurion and went to root it using Autoroot method. In the process something went horribly wrong and the phone did not root entirely.

I found the appropriate PC36IMG and flashed it from the boot loader in the attempt to return to stock. Everything seemed to be alright until the phone booted up. Once it was booted up, it didn't show any indication that the USB connection was present other than charging it and it did not recognize my sd card. On top of that, and worst of all - it reboots after being on for a few minutes. Sort of a delayed boot loop. Because of the usb issue and the boot loop, trying to do anything in the phone itself is pretty much a no go.

I can get into the bootloader and fastboot without issue. I have no recovery though and the phone is set to s-on.

At this point, I have no idea how to proceed so I can get the Evo back up and running per normal. I could really use some help at this point.

well u can try to put the recovery on yourself...tha same thing happened to me last week.....i got a replacement and it didnt root entirely...i had the SON but no recovery....get the PCIMAGE and put it on the root of your SDCARD....ohh wait....so u cant enable USB connection on your PC at all???

if u can enable USB DRIVE just put the PC36IMAGE on your sdcard and install the RECOVERY from your bootlaoder.....see now i didnt get the reboot after a few mins of it being on.....i just didnt get the entire root last week.....thats sounds real strange though....it shouldnt be doing that.....if u cant install the recovery manually...and your phone just reboots without u able to do anything, im not too sure where we go from =there.....hopefully someone else comes in here and helps you with that part....sorry man, i really hope u get that fixed....

I can get to the sdcard with my card reader. I've put the PC36IMG on the root on the SDcard and flased it from the bootloader. Everything updates and looks like it's back to stock. It's only when I boot the phone up that the problems arise. I thought there was a development version of the 3.70 PC36IMG that Fred linked to but I can't find it.

Which recovery and PC36IMG should I be trying to flash? I've seen so many links and my eyes have just gone blurry at this point. How can I just flash the recovery?

I think the problem is that the Autoroot method pushed some files that the phone is still seeing - thereby causing the reboot. Not sure though.

XDA-Developers......

This is for AMON_RA recovery....XDA is down right now due to maintenence but keep refrshing...u may get thru....i only use AMON. I think is more comiled and clean and much more reliable than CW....put it on the ROOT of ur SDcard...u uknow the drill....turn the phone of and go into the bootloader...and install the update....this is AMON's new 2.3 recovery....u said u already did install the recovery from the bootlaoder?....something did go right if u cant get into recovery then.....try this new 2.3 though....IT WILL WORK.....if it doesnt work email me at reverepats09@gmail.com if u want....i have a guy over at XDA thats is great with this stuff.....let me know how it goes

if u wanna unroot u have to get the recovery on there first so u can flash the SOFF package....and then install the RUU update to get back to stock

I haven't flashed any recovery at this point. All I've done is use the PC36IMG to attempt to return the phone to stock.

Can I flash this with s-on when the phone is not rooted?

no yur actually ROTTED RIGHT NOW.....if it says SON in bootloader your rooted my friend....thats garbage AUTROOT didnt flash the recovery onto your device.....thats why im trying to get u onto XDA to get the PC36IMG for the AMON_RA recovery...but there site in going under work right now...firgure right?....so all u need is the recovery....but dont worry....u dont have to unroot once we get the recovery on there....u should be good to go....im continuously checking XDA to see if i can get into the forum....but no...u cant just install the RUU to return back to stock...u have to flash the SOFF zip file first (just like flashing a ROM)...then flash the RUU.....

well the RUU doesnt get flashed...my bad....the RUU goes onto the root of yur SDCARD then u return to the bootloader and it will ask to install the update.....remember though....u have to rename the RUU to "PC36IMG".....dont add .zip cause the bootloader wont recognize it.....personally i never tryed to install the RUU while i had S-ON.....i dont think it will work though

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=705026

ok its up....go there and download the recovery 2.3

download the PC36IMG.zip......dont rename it or anything....just put it right on your SDCArd and turn yur phone off....VOL+DOWN and Power button like usual to get into the bootloader and it will ask u too install the update.....VOL+UP for YES.....let it do its thinkg and it will ask to REBOOT and hit UP for YES......u should have MAON_RA after that.....ill be back in 5 mins....just got home from work and gotta take a shower real quick...LOL.....ill be right back

yes wai.....that just clicked into my mind.....so yur not rooted then....im runing around with 3 kids and just got home from work......OK frm the beginning again....sorry......so ur not rooted at all right now

It goes through the checking for the 3 files it normally checks for then it says it's loading the PC36IMG. After checking it for about a second or two, it returns me to the bootloader main screen. If I go to recovery, I still have the evo/red triangle combo.

so if yur S-ON there no need for anything....i neva used autoroot but i dont think it put any files on yur phone to screw it up.....look on yur SDcard and see if it installed any files on there......try UNREVOKED....but yeah...ur not rooted so there no need for the RUU or anything else....

The fact that you're helping me with 3 kids running around makes me even more grateful.

So: S-ON
Version 3.70.
Unrooted.

Can boot into Bootloader and use fastboot. No option for ADB as far as I can see.

Booting into the phone is pretty useless since it reboots all the time.
