Phone won't restart, how can I keep all data?

Okay, my friend has an Infuse and really needs to keep his documents for upcoming poetry competitions. They're in his memo's/notes. Is there any way to get the phone started again or get things transferred/saved? Does clearing cache (samsung boot options) delete the notes/memos or anything?

Phone won't start? Do you mean won't boot or will not turn on?

Clearing cache won't touch his files, but a Factory Reset would.
