Phones that will Wifi with Nexus?

SVTP is a nice little app that will enable you to use your device as a hotspot for free, bypassing any required feature. There's a lite version which you can download to see if it will work on your device. If it does, a one-time payment of $15 gets you all you can eat mobile hotspot. Just make sure you start your hotspot sessions thru SVTP and not through the normal hotspot widget or app.

Not compatible with the Rezound and most HTC and several other phone brands. :( I guess I wait for ICS.

OK, now I'm confused.

Sorry to confuse you. I've been round and round this area of the forum and gotten myself all kinds of confused. I was under the impression that unless my tablet was a VZW tablet it would not work on their SE plans either. I even called them and they said it had to be a VZW device to work. Someone here told me it had to have a VZW radio to work. I did not want to switch plans unless I could be sure wifi would work.

It only matters if your adding the device to your account but you dont have to when WiFi hotspotting/tethering. Verizon can't supple 4g/3g service to your tablet but WiFi is a whole different story. They can't tell you what devices you can or can't connect to WiFi.

thank you so much. You have explained things to me in a way that helps clear up my confusion. :)

To add to that, I recently changed to a Share Everything plan and my Nexus 7 connects fine to my RAZR using the wi-fi tether. I also have a USB modem and Cradlepoint router on the same account for use when both the DW and I are traveling together and need laptop access for work purposes, and the Nexus works with that as well. As long as you have a plan that allows tethering VW doesn't care what is hooked up to that via wi-fi since they have control over how much data is used via pricing.

WiFi tether is broken on the Verizon galaxy nexus also. They don't connect using the WiFi tether app or the stock android tether. Something to do with a difference in how the WiFi is set up on the nexus 7. I can only Bluetooth using foxfi and PDA together. Makes me sad.

The bluetooth connection is not worth it. As has been discussed on other threads, some apps don't view it is a true internet connection. The Play Store, for example, doesn't see it as internet connected, chrome does on the other hand.

I am on the HTC TB now and since it is unlikely to get ICS now, I will upgrade to another phone in the Fall and get forced over to share everything from my current unlimited plan.

Good luck...

Rats Before reading this thread I was thinking instead of upgrading to the S III I'd tether a Nexus 7 to my X2 and use the phone for calls and the tablet for everything else. Does not appear that will work on Verizon. Figures.

My Galaxy Nexus functions fine as a WiFi hotspot for Nexus7 no errors at all. Running stock ICS and no app to assist.

Stock RAZR maxx works great. No root required ATM. Who knows what happens if JB rolls out to the RAZR.

Yes, I because tethering is banned on the Rezound it doesn't work for wifi only bluetooth which sucks.

The tethering ban doesn't effect whether 3rd party tethering works. It just disable Android's built in tethering software. My dad tethers his Verizon droid x2 with foxfi every day. If you root, you can use even better tether apps. Verizon can't stop you.

stock non rooted VZW Galaxy Nexus - - just add a widget that controls hot spot on/off and turn it on. Don't use the menus. You are now good to go. works with my transformer prime and my Nexus 7

Its jelly bean on the galaxy nexus that broke it.

Thanks! I'm rooted, so I hopefully am good to go. Just got to clear it with the work guys, but I think we're going to be on the share plan soon anyway, so I don't think they will care as long as I don't use too much data (or pay when I exceed what I am alloted!)

I'm on jelly bean and my wifi tether works fine.......just tried it to make sure.

Well that's the last time I try something for the first time at 4am. I could get them to see each other but the 7 would just have the WiFi grey out. Thanks!

I have a T-Mobile galaxy s2 and it tethers with the nexus just fine. I use it all the time it works like a charm. I have the unlimited 5gb plan haven't run out of data yet. Also would like to add it's included on the phone by default no root required.

Not only am I technically challenged with something like rooting it's beyond ridiculous that I should have to do that with a 6mos old phone that's SUPPOSED to have the capability to do this without rooting.

It does. Its just blocked. Rooting isn't that hard. Its very easy with all the help from YouTube and this sitE. Anyone could root. They have step by step instructions. You should give it a try :-)
