Photon 4g Extended Batteries?

I had no trouble at all with the back cover. Didn't even realize the battery was thicked until I laid them side-by-side.

I ruined my back cover trying to snap it back in place after putting the new 1950ma battery in there. Had to order a new back cover on Ebay, since it would no longer snap closed on the sides.

So, not really a big fan of these thicker batteries, as you might guess. I'll stick with the regular sized ones.

Did you have to do anything special for it to properly recognize it? Are you rooted? I'm having issues with my phone detecting my sedio properly.

Mine showed a question mark on the battery status. Never knew how much of a charge it had. I think I can do without.

Mine worked completely normally. I don't think it lasted much longer than the stock battery, but it ran fine. I use battery circle, and may not have noticed what the "standard" battery readout said. But I would have noticed a warning about being at 1%. I am not rooted.

I watched the temp and voltage of the off-brand battery. It ran at a slightly lower average voltage, but both varied more than I would have expected, and the range overlapped almost completely. The gadget seemed perfectly happy with the fake-looking battery.

I'm back to using stock, since I went back and forth testing, and ended up here. Oh, and I decided it was easier to close the back with the stock battery, I just got lucky the first time. But I'm happy to have a spare and a charger for the price.

I know that users have had this experience with the Seidio battery and it may apply to other extended batteries. It appears as if the Photon looks at an extended battery as a regular one and doesn't accurately report the battery drain. The Photon will run forever (well, not really) when it gets to 1%, as if all that extra battery power is used after the 1% warning comes. If people are not experiencing this with the Mugen battery or any others, let me know.

Mine does not report battery drain correctly with the Mugen battery.. It is nice to be at 45% ish and reboot, then be back at 85% though :)

I just got the Mugen yesterday. Letting it charge for 12 hours now, as directed. Wish me luck. :)

So, how's that battery?
Funny you should ask. . .

I finally did enogh "conditioning" to actually try out the battery in normal use. It held up nicely yesterday, ending the day with mayb 30 or 40% charge. (With the stock battery I generally have to re-charge late afternoon if I want to use it all evening.) It looked fine until this morning, when my phone rebooted itself in the midst of the alarm ringing. Then it said it had 5% charge. (It had been plugged in all night). Then I hit the "on" button and it decided it had 100% charge. Then it died. I had to catch my train, and took it and the stock battery and cover along with me. I tried reseating the battery on the train, and when that didn't work, I swapped it for the stock battery.

Now, the phone had just dropped to the floor 10 minutes before all this started. That's a 2-3 foot drop onto carpet. I often get tangled in the charging cord in the morning and drop the phone to the floor - I consider that normal wear&tear. My Pre never minded, and I've never had an issue with the Photon before. And that might or might not even be the issue.

Anyhow, I am not (at this particular moment) a big fan of the Mugen extended battery. But I expect I will give it another try.

Wow. Hopefully, some time will let your phone/battery heal. What about the added bulk of the battery? How does it feel in your hand? Have you attempted to put the phone in your pocket?

It certainly looks bulkier. I still found it comfortable to hold, and it fit in all the same pockets it fit in before. It doesn't stick to my Palm touchstones, which I had been using as "docks" (or stands, I guess.) Neither did the Pre-with-extended-battery, so that was no surprise.

I am a woman with smaller hands than most men, so I'm pretty sure it doesn't become too awkward to hold for anyone who was comfortable holding the unmodified Photon.

The battery is definitely not working. I will see if I can exchange it under warrantee.

I dropped my Photon on the floor about a month ago in a similar situation. The phone landed a funny way I guess and the + volume button was dented! I guess there is a metal "cap" on top of the volume and power buttons for feel and style. Well the dent caused the volume button to stick. After about an hour with a Seidio extended battery at about 90%, my phone died. Why? I found out after removing the damaged and stuck volume button, it was draining the battery even while the phone was in sleep mode in my pocket. And the phone was SUPER hot. Maybe it's something internally in the phone after the drop.

I don't think that's it. The phone was cool, and kept bouncing between 5% and 100%. Then I swapped in the stock battery and it worked fine.

I tried putting the extended battery back, and it wouldn't boot because it would drop down to 5% during the boot cycle. Then I our the stock battery back and it's been working fine all evening.

Puzzlegal, thanks for all your objective assessments of all things Pre/Photon/Tech related. I am a recovering Pre owner, myself. From what I hear, ICS should be our best approximation to WebOS. Here's to hoping we get it. Btw, what mods have you made to your Photon? If it requires a new thread, I'll read and keep it active.

Sounds like a faulty battery. Have you tried to email for an exchange?

Yes, they asked me to mail the battery back to them (in Hong Kong) and make no promises what they will do after that. I will probably do it.

I bought a set of two batteries plus wall charger on Ebay. They were advertised at 3500mAh from YourNeeds4Less. Very disappointing!!!
- both last only about 2/3 of the time of my stock battery
- one keeps turning off the phone every two hours or so
- both back covers have lost some of the clips to secure it onto the phone, so that the back keeps coming off.
I am trying to get a return autho!
Anyone having good luck with the Seidios??
