Photon Battery Life

I dont like that the battery percentage is in increments of 10 though but its not really a big deal

I did some homework and it appears all Motorola phones only report 10% increments. There are some other models from other makers with the same limitation.

Still knowing 11 levels is better than knowing 4.

I don't own a photon but I have had plenty of things to charge before. Even though it takes longer, I have always found that charging by USB has been the best way. It seems to keep the charge longer. Phone wise, the bb Storms seemed to last much longer. It could be a placebo effect, but I can't verify. Someone with horrible battery life mind testing? My DX lasts all day so I can't verify. Just run it as close to dry till you go to bed at night.

Charging on a USB from a computer is about half as fast as charging from a real charger. USB is current limited.
That makes sense. I am charging from the wall, though, not from a computer.

I am using my old Pre charger, not the one that came with the gadget, but I would expect they are similar.

My battery life seems decent. It's been a while since I was on Android, but I decided to switch back for more functionality. I've noticed that my phone is awake a lot, even on very light usage. I have syncing dumbed down and everything. The only social account I have is Facebook, and I've set it to sync only over Wifi which is off most of the time. Additionally, my battery usage shows "phone idle" as the part that's sucking up the most battery (~70-80%). Is this normal, or what's wrong here? I've already reset the phone and it still appears to be doing it. :-\

I have the same high phone idle number. What does that mean?

BTW- am I reading that correctly? it looks like you have about 70% battery left after 10 hours!

The first day my battery was giving me about 3 hours of time before needing to re-charge.

Since implementing most of the suggestions above, I am now getting 10-12 hours of usable life. About the only thing I have not done in the above suggestions is add apps. I want to get used to phone itself before adding apps.

My typical usage is about 30 minutes of talk time during the day. Frequent text messages, usually 20-30. Regularly checking email on three accounts, with average 50+emails daily. Occasionally checking something on the internet, quick Google lookups or reading news/sports.

The times I really see a degredation in battery life is when using one of the navigation apps or leaving the 4g on when no 4g is available.

So far I am very happy with the battery life and the overall performance of the phone. :)

Yeah, you're reading it correctly but it's from -very- light usage.

I completely drained by battery yesterday and charged it up overnight, and today I went 15 hours with 50% left at the end of the day. I had about 4 hours of talk time, and I check the weather about every 15 minutes due to my job, so I'd consider it a moderate use day (Usually my talk time is closer to 6 to 8 hrs). It looks like it works a lot better after a full cycle.

I have yet to drain my battery completely!! And I use my phone very heavy.. I love the battery life on this thing! I can only imagine how long an extended battery would last! WOW very impressed!

Curious if a week later and people have any thoughts on battery life. I have 3 GMail accounts, a Sound Hound and Weather widget on my home screens. I use Plume and it updates every 3 hours. If I play some Angry Birds for like 20-25 minutes, 20 mins of stored music and check a couple texts/emails and my battery was at 30% by 1:30 (7 and a half hours since coming off the charger). Display and Phone Idle combine to take about 80% of my used battery life. Standby, Angry Birds, Android, Bluetooth and Dolphin are 8, 4, 4, 2, and 2 respectively. I don't feel like that should warrant losing 70% of my battery. This was my issue with the Evo as well. 4g, WiFi and GPS all turned off.

Well So far so good I am happy with this batter life. Compared to my evo shift 4G. I used the phone had it on and did not turn background enabling off and i still had 30 to 40 percent after work thats like 8 hours dto me thats awesome.

Mine has improved. I don't know if the actual battery performance has changed, or if it's because I got rid of some default widgets, or a combination of the two. But I might be able to live with this.

Stills the 2600 fat battery I used on the pre. That thing lasted a full day of very heavy use, and I just didn't have to think about it. And of course the Treo was great.

Had the Photon for a week and yesterday was the first time I really tested the battery.

Kinda disappointed, it only lasted me 8 hours.
Screen time was 2 hours. Battery had 15% left.

In battery management, display was #1, followed by cell standby.
The phone was awake a lot though, even when the screen was off. Probably why my battery wasn't that good.

I've been off for 13h 41m with 2h55 min screen time and still at the "30%" level, but maybe 1min of phone calls. First time really trying it out after draining the battery. Pretty impressive.

I came from an Epic. I had 1 regular battery and 2 extended batteries for it. I always seemed like a geek because I had the extra batteries in my pocket all the time. By the end of the day, I would of used 2 of my 3 batteries.

With my new Photon, I have not bought any other batteries and the stock one is lasting me a whole day with the same amount of use. I love this phone !
