Photos taken with my Galaxy Gear

Another dumb question if I may ask but..how do you take pics I mean do you hold your hand up or?

The lens is in the outer wristband if worn on the left arm. You take pictures by swiping down, aiming at what you want to take the picture of, then tapping the screen on the watch.

How do you get the photos from the Gear to show up on the Note 3?

Edit: I see the instructions in the user manual now. I'll try it later on to see if I can get it to work.

The GG seems to do quite well for photos, sure they are outside but they look very well done for a 2MP camera on a wrist watch. What were you expecting a Nokia 1020 w/ 41MP lens?

It tethers to your phone. Whatever data you use goes through your phone. It is not its own device like other smart watches.

Dumb question but where is the lens? In other words how do position your arm to take a picture? Does it matter if you are right handed or left handed? Also, can you post to Facebook from the watch?

I ask because I am a runner. Im curious if I can take pics from the watch during a half marathon and post without touching the phone which I wear on my arm case to listen to music (currently using Note 2 waiting for Verizon and yes I know it's a big phone to run with but used to it)

You cannot post from the Gear directly to Facebook. But like you I am a runner. I don't use FB, but I can take photos or short .15 sec. clips along my run in the early morning and then when I stop just simply transfer them to the phone where they can be shared in any number of ways. In your case it would be to share your photos with FB, but you'd have to transfer to the phone first.

Attached, for your review, are some pics I took inside with my GG.

The more I use it, the more comfortable I am using it. This is one of those devices that until you have one you really can't picture how you'd use it. However, now that I have one it's becoming my default device. It's little things like walking around the store, sitting on the sofa watching tv, eating dinner at the table with my family, or even driving my car, that I always pulled out my phone to read a text or check an email message or even make and receive a call. However, now I can just look at the GG and all that information is right there so the phone never has to leave my jacket pocket.

For heavy duty task I need to pick up the phone, but sitting at my desk working on the computer and an email or text comes in, I do not need to reach for the phone anymore. Some might say it's just me being lazy, but I can see that this type of gadget will only get better with time, and the use cases will grow beyond what we're using them for now.

By the way, you can have a second bluetooth device hooked up to the Note 3 while the GG is connected. When I get in my car I use a plantronics bluetooth visor speaker for listening to audio books. But I don't loose any functionality on the GG because the Note 3 can accommodate both.

The GG will also notify you at or around 1000 ft, depending on circumstances I'm sure, when you are away from the phone. I keep it connected all the time so if I ever walked away and left my phone I would be notified via a vibration from the GG that "bluetooth has been disconnected."

The pixs w this watch are incredibly sharp and detailed for such a small mp camera.

My guess is it is something like this.

Since 2mp was the standard many years ago, allot of improvements have been made in the Sensors. Next is that samsung has put a bit more work in to the optics compared to the current $40 cheap kids camera that is around that same mp. Lastly if the camera is the same size as the current camera phones that meach each sensor is much larger meaning it can do allot more with less light (basically like the HTC Ones' Ultrapixel camera). You probably will never blow these pictures up to be very big, but as long as the size is kept reasonable they will look great.

The MP numbers are really misleading. They are actually far less important then optics and the sensore size.

Imagine IF they put a better sized battery in it (which they should have) but also put an IR Blaster in it, that would be cool. BTW you have convinced me this is truly worth getting. Funny how EVERY review has trashed it and made it out to be a POS.

I really don't think any thing is wrong with the battery. I took mine off the charger at 6am this morning. Right now it's 8pm (14 hrs later), and my battery level is currently showing 63%. I have taken multiple pictures, received I don't know how many notifications, checking the time, talking on the phone, responding to text messages and showing off features to co-workers and friends all day. What more could one expect?

Don't listen to the "professional reviewers." The battery is amazing, and that's all with mine on full brightness.

Mine has been off of the charger for around 10 hours with super heavy notification usage, some S Voice usage, 2 calls that lasted around 3-5 mins each, about 5 pictures taken and 1 video, and various app usage and I'm at 82%. Was actually surprised when I looked at the battery just now.

And yes, this is with Outdoor Mode enabled.

It's WAY under 1000' even outside in an open field. Inside I can go 30-50 feet depending on walls etc. before disconnecting. Outside I've managed perhaps 100ish feet before disconnecting.

I can only speak from my experience when I tested it several times this afternoon.

However, I do agree that it varies greatly depending on the circumstances. In either case the notification you receive when you're out of range is useful if you've left your phone somewhere.

DAS, you have convinced me this is worth getting. I will be picking one up on Friday. Not expecting to get BB to price match and I'm not interested in a fight with them but I will also be getting a GN10.1 2014 tablet so they 'may' be willing to help but I doubt it. Still by all accounts the GG is really turning out to be stellar.

I plan to pick up the GN 10.1 2014 as well. I had the original Galaxy Tab 10.1 (sold it), and then purchased the Galaxy Note 10.1 (sold it), and now I own the Galaxy Note 8.0. However, I think I want the larger Note tablet for around the house and when I'm in meetings at work. I find that with the size of the Note 3 the GN8 is too similar in size.

I think that you will enjoy the Gear. I didn't read most of the reviews about the Gear because I knew that I wanted it no matter what they said about it. The one review that I did read knocked the Gear badly, but the reviewer even admitted that he had not ever used the device. He was just going by what other reviewers said.

I like the Gear more than I thought that I would.

Like you, I was going to get it no matter what. But now that I have it I find it actually is a very useful tool.

I cannot speak for anyone else, but even at $300 I don't have the slightest bit of buyer's remorse.
