First off I am keeping this (Pixel 2 XL) phone and really like it...

So I finally got around to D/L the grey screen and going full screen to see if I had any burn in. At first at 40%(My typical level) I saw nothing...So bumped it up till it was at 100% (a level only used outside, so rarely)and sure enough very faintly I could see it at the bottom. The task buttons.

Here is the odd part tho and why I am posting this, other than the bottom task buttons does anyone have any other burn in?

My wallpaper is really bright, with lots of bright white. That should have burned in by now. I chose this wallpaper (Static) within an hour of getting the phone.

Now I am posting my screenshot at full brightness, can anyone see any other burn in, maybe that I can not pick up with my old eyes.

I want to find out if these phones have burn in of just the bottom bar(and out of the box), and why that would be...and if that is the case that really will be no issue at all for me. Should not the whole screen be susceptible?

If this screenshot doesn't show anything, I will have to take a pic with camera.

So post up your burned in screens.

A screenshot wouldn't capture burn in. That is something needed from an outside camera.

I'll take a pic with something else. I gotta tell you if I wasn't looking for it, I never would have seen it, it is very dim. I need another pixel to take a pic, not sure my N6 will capture it.

Might just be me but I can`t see anything untoward on either photo.

What do you think of that wallpaper? That should be burned in by now, if the bottom buttons were? That white is as bright as the buttons (tho they have been dimming for days now with 8.1)

Yes -- a screenshot won't capture anything so yes you aren't seeing anything.

Actually Al my screenshot did capture it, I can see that screenshot on the phone and see the burn in, it is not transferring to forums.

That is because you're seeing it on your device itself -- it isn't part of the file of the screenshot. Look at it from another phone screen or comptuer screen and you won't see it.

This is more difficult than I thought...I can see it but the camera barely picks it up...burnin.jpg

A screenshot is a digital capture of the information on the screen. It's not possible for burn in to EVER be seen on a screenshot because burn in is a physical defect. It'll only ever be seen when you take a picture. It's also difficult to see on pictures as well.

A screenshot only captures image output not screen output. How it displays on your screen is impossible to capture except with an external camera. This is true for any defects in the screen. Also the colors of your screen will be different than a screenshot.

I'm gonna be this honest with ya, if you gotta try this hard to show it or see it yourself... it's not gonna be a problem for me. this is far too much attention to detail for even my level of OCD.

And you Majime are the winner!!

This thread makes my head hurt. It reminds me of the time that I stayed up all night to see if I snored.

I had a similar thought but decided to leave it inside my head.

I agree completely with Majime_Black, if you have to go to this much trouble just to see if you have a problem, then that problem is not going to have a big impact on your enjoyment of this phone.

But the issue is that the Pixel 2XL apparently has a faster burn in than other phones.. Meaning that it burn ins a lot sooner than usual vs its competitors.. And it will build up over time. Who knows how it will look like 1 year from now.

I feel like I may be screwed though in regards to getting a possible replacement via warrently cause I got mine from a seller on ebay and I asked him for his receipt about a week ago, and he hasn't responded.

Without phone models, test criteria and time periods along with severity of retention used as a benchmark this whole burn in issue is just internet group mentality panic.
