Pictures received in Hangouts are bad quality

I bought my girlfriend an LG G4 around a week ago. Since then, whenever she sends a picture to me on my Moto X 2014 in Hangouts the quality is quite bad. She's tried sending the same pictures to me in ICQ and by email and the pictures are fine. So why is Hangouts making the pictures crap? Pictures she sent to me in Hangouts with her previous Sony phone were great quality. Anybody got any ideas?
