coming from Windows phone, I found AOD lacking. I don't use it.

I use it, and I'm a big fan. I'm often a fan of the KISS concept in phones, and this follows that concept. I like having a clock, and on my nightstand, it's not enough to be obvious but dim enough to not light up the room. Toss in some simple notification icons and that's all I require.

Granted, a more interactive AOD like on the V30 is nice, but then you start down the dark path of feature bloat.

There is an app called "battery active display" that puts the batter level on your lock screen!

That app hasn't been updated since 2014.

But it still works! I like it. Only shows when my AOD is up. Good comprimise until I go back to Android P (which has it built in). I'll probably go back when DP2 comes out. Couple bugs in DP1 drove me nuts

Why does an app have to be updated if it does exactly what you need? Don't fix whats not broken. You want to be able to see battery on your AOD, you can

I'm using AOD. My battery life does not seem to suffer because of it.

It's not a huge draw on power but there is some certainly. I just prefer having a black screen till I decide to wake it up. My dresser where the phone sits in a stand facing me is about 6 feet from my head as I sleep and I can't read the AOD from that distance if I wake up, takes awhile to focus LOL. If I need to know the time I just ask the google girl.
