Pixel 2 = Bezelmania

They work perfectly fine unless you don't know how to hold a phone.
Very interesting.. if another manufacturer made an issue such as that you'd blame them. If it pertains to Samsung you always blame the individual versus maybe thinking that not everyone may agree with you or use a phone the same way.

Agree to disagree. We have a mountain of posts and comments from people having false touch issues, displays that break easier due to the edges, difficulty installing screen protectors, etc.

There is nothing to blame Samsung for. If you hold it like a normal human being, there is no problem. If you hold it like a gorilla, you'll have problems. Just hold it like a human being. This conversation reminds me of one I had with a co-worker once.

"This box knife isn't cutting."
"You're holding it upside down."

And yet you continue the same trend .. interesting lol.

Oh well .. just tells me what I already knew :). Carry on !

Equating people to gorillas doesn't always go over well.

I said if you hold the phone like one, there will be problems. I'm not saying anything that isn't true and what I said applies to any brand, including LG. You only have problems if you don't hold the phone right.

But holding the phone "right", is holding the phone in a way that is different from every other device that doesn't have the "feature" that makes normal holding patterns suddenly "wrong".

The day I have to worry about the way I hold my phone is the same day I run it over with my truck, exactly why I'll never own an edge device.

I don't sit and stare in wonderment at these devices, they're a tool for me, an irritant at times, and something most people just grab and go. Phantom touches are well documented here whether you want to acknowledge them or not.

When I was a wee lad learning to write, I had to worry about holding the pencil correctly.
When I was a teenager learning to drive, I had to learn how to hold the wheel correctly.
When I was in USMC boot camp learning to shoot, I had to learn how to hold the M14/Colt 45 correctly.
When I was a Cadet in the Correction Dept. Training Program, I had to learn how to hold the handcuffs properly when ‘cuffing an inmate.
Now that I am in my “Golden Years”, expecting to relax and enjoy life, I find I have to worry about holding my phone correctly.

My apologizes to all the phones I have picked up over the years without the proper holding techniques.
I’m sorry.

Submitted with respect to gorillas everywhere.

Not sure what holding a phone "right" means, but holding it securely means holding it in part on its sides. My wife and I both hate having to handle her S7E with kid gloves because of all the inadvertent edge touches. Not to mention the distortion along the edges when watching video or viewing images.

There's not such a thing as holding a phone right. It all depends on personal preferences (one-handed use or not) and basic things like how you type. Some people 'swipe' with their thumb (left or right), others type with both thumbs or with just one index finger, or with a pen or ...

Depending on your style and preferences bezels or a sizeable chin can be helpful, or not. For me, both are necessary (one handed use, swipe instead of type and plenty of gestures on my home screens). My wife doesn't need them at all and an almost no bezel phone could be just perfect (smaller phone with a big screen).

Let me ask - suppose LG added them first or even Pixel? Would the entire industry follow? No way. Samsung folks would say they were silly and gimmicky and like the LG failed experiment to modular add ons the curved edges would disappear.
Actually LG did add them first: the G6 was announced before the S8.

I don't see what the problem is: for most purposes you get more screen in the same size device. For those who can't bear to watch a video because it will have black bands at the side, can someone please tell me why this temporary black band is worse than a permanent one (i.e. the larger bezel of a traditional design)? Especially since we know that the Pixel XL2 will be using an OLED screen (because Daydream) and so those extra bits will be off, so black if watching in a dark room rather than slightly grey.

My point was about curved edges. The S6+ had them.

Looks like Google will be trying an old Apple tactic with the pixel 2. Re-cycle old junk with a new processor. Same huge bezels. Price it at a premium. HEY RICK, it won't work. You won't sell 50,000. People want minimum bezels in a small form fator.

If you want to talk big bezels, look at the iPad. People who complain about bezels are seriously overexaggerating things. It’s not a big deal. Lots of things have them, from TV’s to laptops to tablets.

I don't care much about bezels - I am fine either way really - but your analogy is probably not the best as the phone is the only one of those thing you put in your pocket and handle with 1 hand sometimes (ok, maybe smaller tablets). Some people want more screen area without having to hold a giant phone, or just don't like the look of a phone with larger bezels. It's fair to have that point of view for sure. Others prefer a little bezel to prevent accidental touches and have a place to hold. Again, I am mostly fine either way honestly.

I wouldn't take comments in these forums as indicators of what the "normal" phone user prefers in any case :-)

Isn't the XL 2 suppose to have tiny bezels. Yeah, I'm sick of big bezels. I've got an iPhone 7 plus and I'm not 'upgrading' to an 8 plus because it's more of the same. And the X has that notch which I don't like and which I don't think will stick around. Don't care about platform as I've switched back and forth between iOS and Android for a few years now. I was going to get a S8+ this weekend but seeing some of the leaked pics of the XL2 has got me intrigued.

Yes, it does.

Wow... last year people were complaining that it didn't have water resistance and this year it's the bezels... I wonder what next year's general complaint will be...

Look if bezels are that unacceptable for you, get an S8, a G6 or if you want stock Android, get a PH1! Problem solved! ;)
Actually, people where also complaining about bezels.
