If HTC & LG are making the Pixel & Pixel XL, what happens to the camera? Will they bring their own tech? Will Google force them to use the same camera? Last year's HTC Pixel camera got a lot of praise. This year's HTC U11 camera is getting a lot of praise. I hope HTC gets the nod for camera tech in both models though I doubt LG would agree to that.

The way I understand the process is, that Google contracts with in this case HTC and LG to build the phones. But, Google is in charge of design and what components go into the phone. Maybe they use components and design cues from both manufacturers or maybe they don't.

I'm 100% certain that the reason why the HTC camera is good is because of Google. I don't think the camera is a credit to HTC themselves. I think they just used the things they learned from Google.
Either that or a time crunch thing. Since LG is already manufacturing a phone built around a 2:1 aspect ratio display, they're probably better able to deal with the XL version than HTC. Retooling for that newer form factor might have been too much for HTC to accomplish along with cranking out the "standard" sized Pixel 2.
Maybe so. I figured with how hard the 128gb XL was to come by maybe they needed to bring in another manufacturer
wasnt pixel and xl using a sony module?? htc would have nothing to do with this. probably the same with pixel 2.
