I use zedge like most of you. Ringtones are lame but the thing that I'm missing most is an alarm tone from my old 6p. Think it was called platinum? It was just nice to wake up to

I have iPhone 8 plus, Pixel 2XL, Note 8 and iPhone X and hate all the included ringtones.

I download Zedge for my Android phones and download all the custom ringtones I want.

Then i copy them to my PC and rename them and import to iTunes and sync them on my iPhones

Might be time for an intervention. Lol

I keep my phone on mute almost all the time, so ringtones and notification sounds aren't so important to me; BUT, there's a problem with how they're handled on all phones.

The problem: They're given names and organized alphabetically. Do you know what "Sunset" sounds like? Or "Orange"? So if you care about ringtones, you have to listen to all of them.

They should be organized in terms of pitch and length. You want to know if the ringtone is long or short. And you want to know if it's high pitched (so it'll cut through other sounds) or low pitched (probably for something less important).

As someone whose phone is almost always silent, I'd much prefer to be able to set certain vibrational rhythms for different notifications. That way when it buzzes in my pocket, it's quiet, but I know if it's a text message or Youtube notification.

I've been using Zedge for years for my notification/ringtone needs. I've almost never used stock for long periods of time. I almost automatically default to my own unique set of notifications.

... There's nothing like the original Spider-Man 1960's ringtone going off when my big brother calls me. 😃🤣

I use custom ringtones and notifications for family and friends so I will know who is texting or calling when my phone is not within eyesight.

I installed Zedge on my phone about 3 years ago. It screwed it up so badly with ads, killed my battery with background processes, and just turned my phone into a giant, useless piece of ****. I like what they have, though so if I'm looking for something new I just visit the site in my browser, find what I want, then download it. I trim it so that it's something useful and not too long, then put it in my ringtone folder. I also put a copy on my Google Drive so that I don't have to worry about backing it up if I FDR.

That's the great thing about Android - it's so open, you can just download ANY audio file (FLAC, MP3, etc) and set anything as a ringtone, alarm, notification, etc.

Current ringtone is the James Bond theme.
Current notification is just a "bong"
Current SMS notification is the stock "strum"
I have two alarm notifications (one for weekdays to get up for work, one for the weekend if I need one) - weekdays it's one that I took from my Samsung Galaxy S3, weekends it's a nice, soft, Billy Joel song (I ripped from a CD that I own).

I would never install any of the "create and download your own ringtones and notification" apps. You just never know what they're going to bundle with it.

Zedge is pretty good but now I make my own ringtones and notification sounds using musical excerpts personalized for each starred person in my contact list. Sometimes I use TV theme song excerpts. For a long time I used the signature electronic 5 tones from Close Encounters of the Third Kind as my notification tone. The opening notes of the Twilight Zone TV show theme is also good. I had the distinctive sound of the CTU phone ringing from TV show '24' as my default ring tone. I've changed things up a bit now, using "Who Are You" by the Who as my default ringtone.

I use Audacity to trim edit the sounds--I've found 24 seconds for ringtones and 6 seconds for notification tones works best. Save as 128 Mbps files, transfer to appropriate phone sound folder and I'm good to go.

I wish people like you would stop posting these sorts of things. Now I have to rethink my entire ringtone/notification strategies.... :'(

I'm sorry! Haha. If it makes you feel any better, I change up my tones way too often.

My boyfriend's ringtone has changed at least four or five times in the course of a year. 🤣

Yes. This.

LOL. I've got a James Bond ringtone that I give to friends to use as my custom ringtone.

My current notification is the cabin chime sound you hear in airplanes when they want you to buckle your seat belt. Soothing, distinctive, and unobtrusive.

I've also used the old timey NBC TV three bell chime.

One of my contacts has the opening of "96 Tears" by Question Mark and the Mysterians. Quite recognizable.

I created custom ringtones for my wife and daughter that say, "Deb Text" or "Andrea Text". Just so I know who's texting without having to look Aside from that, heck, nobody calls anymore :D

You, uh... Can uninstall it after you download the ringtones you want.

Actually, Google appears to have recently crippled the ability to use anything other than the default notification sound for SMS/MMS across all platforms. Even Verizon's Message+ recently stripped out the ability to define a unique tone. This ability has been something I've used for the nearly 8 years I've been on Android, and I'm mighty annoyed that it's going away. I WANT individual tones depending upon the source of the notification so I know the level of priority. Losing this is a major negative.

I'm not sure what you are talking about only because I have different notification sounds I set up for my two texting apps (Pulse and Textra, not used at the same time obviously) and on top of that individual tones for certain individuals for SMS. Almost every app I have with notifications supports a customized ringtone for it actually, with few exceptions.

Now MMS texts always come in as the default SMS tone I have set for that app regardless if there are individuals in it with their own notification sound.

I wonder why I'm enjoying custom ringtones and notification sounds on my Verizon Pixel 2 XL using Verizon Message+?

(With Verizon Message+ you must customize the notification sound individually within the conversation AFTER you receive a text from someone. Be sure you tap 'Save' after you assign a custom tone.)

Open up messenger and select a conversation and then go to people and options and you can set a custom notification.
